WASHINGTON — The Senate has confirmed the nomination of U.S. District Judge John D. Tinder of Indianapolis to the federal appeals court.

The Senate vote on Tuesday for Tinder was 93-0. Indiana Sens. Richard Lugar and Evan Bayh both supported his nomination.

Tinder replaces retiring Judge Daniel Manion of South Bend on the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago, which hears appeals from federal courts in Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin.

Tinder has been a judge for the Southern District of Indiana since his appointment in 1987 by President Reagan. He previously was the U.S. attorney for Indiana’s southern district.

Tinder received his bachelor’s and law degrees from Indiana University and taught at the IU law school in the 1980s.
