VALPARAISO, Ind.— An Indianapolis police officer shot in the head in 2008 could be the first witness to testify in the trial of the man accused of pulling the trigger.

A Porter County jury of seven men and five women will decide whether 37-year-old Brian Reese is guilty of attempted murder in the shooting of Officer Jason Fishburn. The trial was transferred to Valparaiso in northwestern Indiana after extensive media coverage in Indianapolis.

The jury was selected Monday and opening arguments were set for Tuesday. The trial is expected to take about a week.

Fishburn was shot in July 2008 while chasing Reese as part of a homicide investigation. Reese also faces charges in three homicides that occurred days earlier.

Fishburn has since resumed limited duties with the police department.
