WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say a Purdue University sophomore is hospitalized in serious condition after falling three stories from an apartment balcony into a parking lot.

Purdue police say 19-year-old Joseph M. Miller had apparently been sitting on the balcony of a friend’s apartment when he fell more than 20 feet to the parking lot Tuesday.

Police were called to the scene around 6:30 a.m. after Miller went back to the apartment and knocked on the door.

Lt. Fred Davis says it’s not clear when Miller fell because nobody witnessed the incident and Miller was not able to tell police what happened. He says police have no indications that drugs or alcohol were involved, and they don’t suspect foul play.

Miller is from Portage and is enrolled in the College on Engineering.
