BOONVILLE, Ind. — Police in Boonville say a man fatally shot himself when officers stopped his pickup truck following a brief chase.
The chase began about 8:30 p.m. Saturday when police in the southwest Indiana town received a dispatch about a possible drunken driver. When police spotted the suspect vehicle, the driver initially refused to stop.
After the driver stopped, an officer took his information and was checking his driver’s license status when police say the man shot himself. No one else was injured.
Police say the man did not appear to have a criminal record and didn’t have any outstanding warrants. The motive for the shooting was unclear.
An autopsy was scheduled for Sunday.
