7:10 p.m.: Recruiter admits assaulting enlistees

The Associated Press

NOBLESVILLE — A former National Guard recruiter pleaded guilty Thursday to 10 charges including sexual battery and official misconduct for groping seven potential female enlistees.

Eric Vetesy, 39, who also pleaded guilty to corrupt business influence, faces up four years in prison under a deal with prosecutors.

A rape charge was dropped as part of the deal.

Hamilton Superior Court Judge Steven Nation said he would decide whether to accept the plea agreement after receiving a pre-sentence investigation report from probation officials.

Nation in December rejected an original plea agreement in the case which would have allowed Vetesy to avoid jail time.

Vetesy was indicted in 2005 for his actions while working as a recruiter during 2002-03. His victims were former students at Hamilton Southeastern, Noblesville and Westfield high schools. Most of the assaults occurred in a National Guard armory.

Nation tentatively scheduled sentencing for July 3.
