EVANSVILLE — Airport authorities in Evansville and South Bend have renewed their contract with an airline providing daily flights to Indianapolis for another year.
The Evansville-Vanderburgh Airport Authority Board voted Monday to renew its contract with Cape Air. The St. Joseph County Airport Authority Board approved a similar contract last week.
The original contract for five daily flights would have expired in May.
Officials at both airports hope the flights will prove popular enough that they will not have to provide subsidies.
Evansville’s airport finance director estimates that a federal subsidy will be used up by summer, but both airports may provide their own subsidies to continue the flights.
