Man killed in Fort Wayne police standoff

The Associated Press

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Authorities say a Fort Wayne police officer fatally shot a man after he pointed a shotgun at officers during a standoff.

Fort Wayne Police Chief Rusty York said the man was threatening to blow up the neighborhood when officers arrived early Wednesday. York says officers were talking to the man when he came out of the house with a shotgun, cocked the gun and aimed it toward police. That’s when an officer shot the man in the head.

Neither the names of the dead man nor the police officer who shot him were immediately released.

York said that a number of full gasoline containers were in the home, many with their tops off.
