Lapel rejects Blue River

LAPEL — The girls basketball season opener proved to be worth the wait Thursday for Lapel.

The Bulldogs routed Blue River Valley 63-24 to start a season rife with expectations.

Courtney Prater led the way with 18 points, six rebounds and six steals. She was one of four players to finish in double figures for Lapel.

Elizabeth Jennings scored 16 points and added seven steals and two blocked shots.

Julie Miller (12 points) and Ashley Davison (11) rounded out the Bulldogs in double figures.

Lapel took much of the suspense out of the contest early. The Bulldogs led 23-6 after the first quarter and 44-11 at intermission before taking their foot off the pedal just a bit.

Blue River (0-4) was led by Sidney Cook and Whitney Rodeffer with six points each.

Lapel, coming off a 22-3 season that ended with a two-point loss to Winchester in the sectional championship game, travels to Alexandria on Nov. 29.
