MUNCIE — The Frankton boys tennis doubles team of Jon Gardner and John Whitcomb won its sectional match Friday to advance to the next round on Oct. 18.

Gardner and Whitcomb polished off the Muncie Burris duo of Dave Morgan and Francis Muhiga 6-3, 6-2 to run their record to 21-2 on the season. They will play next at Carmel High School at 10 a.m. a week from today against a doubles team out of the West Lafayette Sectional.

The Eagles unbeaten No. 1 singles player Alex Poe is still waiting for an opponent. He will play Oct. 18 at Park Tudor against an advancing singles player from the West Lafayette Sectional.

Mudd notches Edgewood ace

Byron Mudd recorded a hole-in-one on No. 16, a 145-yard hole at Edgewood Golf Course with a 9 iron on Sept. 6 in the Lewellen Memorial tournament. It was witnessed by Jim Mudd, Jim Cornwell and Eric Weston.
