Tuesday's area roundup: Tribe's Rebenack no-hits Bearcats

ANDERSON — Johnna Rebenack lifted the Anderson softball team over the .500 mark with a no-hitter at home Tuesday against Muncie Central.
The Indians won the game 10-0 in five innings. Rebenack, a senior, struck out 11 hitters and walked only two.
Chrissy Stephens, Erica Couch and Morgan Jarvis each had two hits for AHS. Jarvis drove in three runs and Couch two. Anderson is now 10-9 overall and 2-5 in the North Central Conference.

Carmel 12, Highland 2
The Greyhounds broke open a close game in the final two innings of this game shortened to five innings.
Stormy Holder and Krista Davis each had a pair of hits for the Scots. Highland dropped to 17-8 with the loss.

Mount Vernon 7, Alexandria 0
The Tigers managed eight hits but failed to score against the Marauders.
Kylie Bischof was perfect in three trips to the plate for Alexandria, which is now 16-10 on the season.

Mississinewa 6, Elwood 0
Elwood managed just two hits against the Indians and both were by Kayla Rider. The defeat drops the Panthers to 7-12.

Delta 3, Shenandoah 1
The Golden Eagles scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to top the Raiders.
Shenandoah had nine hits to seven for Delta. Amanda Hensley, Mandy Townsend and Mary Spiker each had two hits for the Raiders (11-11).

Madison-Grant 11, Lapel 1
The Class 2A No. 10 Argylls scored nine runs over a two-inning stretch and stopped the Bulldogs in five innings.
Five Madison-Grant batters had two hits apiece: Cady Riggs, Bonnie Parker, Dana Runyan, Sam Yeagy and Keshia Head. Freshman pitcher Kortney Stephens allowed Lapel just three hits, walked nobody and fanned eight.
The Argylls are now 20-3.

Daleville 3, Northeastern 2
The Broncos scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to erase a deficit and post the win.
Cassie Morgan had three hits and the game-winning RBI. Kristen Church posted the win, giving up eight hits and three walks with nine strikeouts.

Girls tennis
Highland 5, Muncie Burris 0
The Scots capped an unbeaten season with a shutout of the Owls in their finale.
Four of the five Highland points came without the winners dropping more than three games in the two sets.\

Anderson 4, New Castle 1
The Indians failed to lose a set in the four matches where they scored points to win the season finale and claim a 7-8 record.
The No. 2 doubles team of Ellen Byer and Martha Byer won 6-0, 6-0.
The Indians lost to the Marauders 4-1 on Monday. Natalie Gasque won for the Marauders at No. 1 singles 4-6, 7-6, 6-4.

Mount Vernon 3, Frankton 2
The Eagles won the first set at No. 2 doubles but lost the next two sets for a pivotal point. The Marauders’ team of Cassie Bills and Paige Yeadon won 0-6, 6-1, 7-5.

Shenandoah 4, Tri 1
Mariah Smith was perfect at No. 2 singles as the Raiders put away a potential sectional foe in the Titans.

Baseball
Anderson 18, Muncie Central 8
Drew Hollan had a home run, two doubles and knocked in seven runs to power the Indians to a North Central Conference win.
Nolan Earley hit a grand slam homer. Anderson is 13-7 and 4-5 in the league.

Highland 26, Delta 8
Jake Millikan, Chandler Sidwell and Kolin Jarrett each had three hits for the Scots in the rout. Highland scored 20 runs in the third inning.
The Scots are now 10-10.

Wapahani 11, Shenandoah 1
Danny Johns had three hits for the Raiders. Luke Hamm added a double.

Madison-Grant 9, Frankton 5
Garrett Robinson had three hits for the Eagles, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Argylls.
Frankton is 8-11 on the season.

Elwood 13, Alexandria 5
Garrett Hosier hit a two-run home run and a double for the Tigers but the Panthers rolled. Corey Smith added two hits for Alexandria.

Boys golf
Marion 159, Alexandria 178
Zach Collins carded a 42 and Justin Hamilton a 43 at Yule Golf Course but the Giants stopped the Tigers anyway.
Alexandria is 4-8.

Girls track & field
Eagles set conference, school record
Frankton’s 3,200-meter relay team set school and conference records en route to a victory Friday at the Central Indiana Conference meet.
The Eagles’ team of Candace DeLong, Heather Herrman, Mary Kelich and Danielle Jeske won in 10:07.74, winning by more than 40 seconds. They helped Frankton to a third-place team finish, which led area squads.
Eastbrook won the team championship with 130 points, followed by Oak Hill (113.5) and Frankton (108). Blackford was fourth with 80, followed by Madison-Grant (76.5), Alexandria (51), Mississinewa (46) and Elwood (four).
Madison-Grant’s Betsy Floyd was a double winner, taking the 100 (13.20 seconds) and the 200 (27.42) while also running on the Argylls’ first-place 400 relay team (53.33). Alexandria’s Brianna Foster won the 1,600 (5:35.56) and the 800 (2:29.24), while Frankton’s Herrman won the 3,200 (12:17.57). The Eagles’ Jeske and DeLong ran on the first-place 1,600 relay (4:24.34) in addition to the record-setting 3,200 relay.

Local golf
Butler records ace
David Butler made a hole-in-one Tuesday at Meadowbrook Golf Course while participating in the Reds Group Golf outing. Butler used an 8-iron to ace the 145-yard eighth hole, the No. 1 handicap hole on the course. Ron Oaloon, Harold Sears and Ron Kelly witnessed the shot.
