Wednesday's prep sports roundup: Argylls closes in on CIC title

Madison-Grant moved within one win of clinching a tie for the Central Indiana Conference softball title with a 10-4 win over Eastbrook Wednesday.
Cady Riggs had a two-run home run and Dana Runyan had three hits, including a double for the winners.
The Argylls (16-3 and 5-1) visit CIC foe Mississinewa today.

Anderson 6, Richmond 0
Johnna Rebenack blanked the Red Devils on two hits as the Indians dumped their North Central Conference foe.
Jordan Herrington helped AHS with a home run as one of her two hits. Other Indians with two hits included Anna Lacey, Chrissy Stephens and Morgan Jarvis.

Western 12, Elwood 2
The Panthers allowed nine runs in the first inning and never recovered in the five-inning loss.
Heather McPhearson and Kristen Hibst each drove in a run for Elwood (6-9).

Boys
Lapel wins White River title
The Bulldogs notched five blue ribbons to win the White River Athletic Conference title.
Trent Crandall was one of Lapel’s multiple winners, coming in first in the 1,600 and the 800.
The Raiders had four first place finishes and was third in the team standings.
Argylls roll past three foes
Madison-Grant claimed blue ribbons in 11 events to win the meet with 105 points.

Girls
Bulldogs second at WRAC
Samantha Tarlton, Julie Miller and Leah Steele were all Lapel winners in the White River Athletic Conference meet and helped the team finish second behind Eastern Hancock.
Argylls top Whites, Kings
Madison-Grant rolled up 83 points, aided by 10 first place finishes to win the three-way meet.

Tennis
Highland rained out at Delta
The Scots won two matches and lost one with two still in progress when rain stopped play for good.
Highland’s two points came on wins by Mercy Scott at No. 2 singles and Abby Beard at No. 3 singles.

Alexandria secures CIC crown
The Tigers claimed solo possession of the Central Indiana Conference title with a 5-0 whitewash of Elwood.
Alexandria captured all 10 sets played to run its season record to 15-4 and 5-0 in the league.

Mississinewa 4, Frankton 1
Kylie Ritenour and Carissa Ward teamed up at No. 1 doubles to get the Eagles their only win.
Frankton is 8-4 and finished 3-2 in CIC play.

Golf
Lapel turns back three opponents
The Bulldogs’ Brodie Williams shot a school record 32 at Horseshoe Bend Golf Course to help his team top New Palestine, Eastern Hancock and Shenandoah.
Mason Lloyd also broke 40 with a 39 for Lapel (5-2-1).

Highland 159, Alexandria 182
Highland’s Trey Knight shot a medalist 38 and two of his teammates shot 39s as the Scots rolled past the Tigers.
Matt Johnson’s 41 was the top Tigers score. Highland is 6-4 on the season.

Baseball
Carmel 11, Highland 1
Taylor Hopkins had half of Highland’s four hits and the Scots had six errors to contribute to the six-inning loss.
Highland is now 7-10 on the season.
