Thursday's area roundup: Frankton softball wins

ALEXANDRIA — Seven innings weren’t enough for Alexandria and Frankton softball teams.
Instead, both Central Indiana Conference rivals needed nine complete with visiting Frankton, winning 4-3 on Thursday afternoon.
Jaselyn Jarrell scored the go-ahead run via an Allison Parr single in the top of the ninth, improving Frankton’s record to 10-5 on the year and a perfect 3-0 in the CIC.
Eagles’ Brittany Lawler and Bre Shively each logged two hits, and Parr finished with three. Sami Green recorded the win as Frankton totaled 11 hits.
Alexandria posted 14 hits and tied the game with a three-run bottom of the fifth after trailing 3-0. Frankton jumped ahead, scoring a run in each of the first three frames.
Sarah Almack suffered the loss despite leading the Tigers (11-8, 2-1) with four hits. Brooke Sayre, Erin England and Erin Overmann had two hits apiece.

Lapel 11, Knightstown 0
The Bulldogs trailed momentarily against the host Panthers, but it didn’t last.
Down 1-0 in the first inning, Lapel scored three run in the bottom half and eight more in the third and fourth to blow past Knightstown in five innings.
Kelsey Burton picked up the White River Athletic Conference win for the Bulldogs (6-10), striking out five and walking none.
The Bulldogs logged three extra base hits. Katelynn Ash finished with two hits and a double while Kourtney Allender hit a triple with three RBIs. Courtney Prater also added two RBIs and a triple. Kaylie Schroeder had two hits and an RBI.

Madison-Grant 13, Tipton 0
The Argylls recorded 18 hits and junior starter Sara Webster tossed a no-hitter as M-G toppled the Blue Devils in five innings.
Webster struck out nine batters through five innings, walked none and only allowed one base runner, hitting a batsman in the fourth.
Offensively, the Argylls (14-3, 3-1) grabbed a 3-0 lead after two frames and scoring nine runs in the third.
Kendra Stitt drove in a pair of runs behind three hits and a double. Kady Riggs one of her two hits for a triple and an RBI. Dana Runyon and Chelsie Morrical each had two hits with a double and a triple, respectively. Bonnie Parker crushed a home run, driving in four runs on two hits.

Liberty Christian 16, Tri 0
The host Lions jumped ahead and never looked back against the Titans.
Liberty Christian (5-7) scored nine runs in the bottom of the first, and Karon Earley pitched all five innings for her third one-hit victory this season.
Earley walked two and struck out 12. She added two hits at the plate while Kyle Nuce matched the feat. Genevieve Brumfield had three hits.

Pendleton Heights 7, Mount Vernon 2
The Class 4A No. 10 Arabians picked up a key Hoosier Heritage Conference win, beating the Marauders at Legends Field.
PH trailed 1-0 through two innings before tying the game in the bottom of third. The Arabians (17-5) pulled ahead 6-1 after five frames.
Lindsey Beisser picked up the win, limiting the Marauders to five hits. Casey Jamerson had two hits, a double and an RBI. Erin Falkenberry finished with two hits.

BASEBALL
Wapahani 7, Highland 5
The Scots held a slim 5-4 lead early, but lost hold, falling on the road to the Class 2A No. 1 Raiders.
Wapahani went ahead for good behind a decisive three-run bottom of the fourth.
Trevor Humes suffered the loss as the Scots fell to 6-9.
Jake Millikan and Chandler Sidwell each recorded a double on two hits. Taylor Hopkins supplied two runs scored, a double, a steal and an RBI. Kolin Jarrett had two hits with two RBIs.

Elwood 23, Frankton 11
A day after narrowly falling to rival Pendleton Heights, the Panthers went on the offensive, beating the Eagles 23-11 in a CIC game.
Elwood logged 15 hits, and after tying the game at 7 in the third, scored 16 the next two frames to win in five innings.
The win keeps Elwood’s CIC record flawless while dropping Frankton to 6-8.
Kevin Worsley, Darren Jones, Troy Worsley, Trevor Ozenbaugh and Ethan Arehart each logged two hits for the Panthers.
Brandon France led the Eagles with three hits and three RBIs. Garrett Robinson drove in a pair.

Blackford 10, Alexandria 5
The Bruins picked up another CIC win over the Tigers.
Alexandria received a boost from Drew Overmann’s three-run home run in the bottom of the third and Corey Smith’s solo shot, but Blackford countered in the sixth.
Blackford scored a decisive four runs despite Alexandria closing the gap 6-5 through five innings.

GIRLS TENNIS
Mount Vernon 5, Shenandoah 0
The Marauders used straight sets in four of their five matches with the Raiders.
The doubles team of Lindsey Rice and Alyssa Bennett grabbed a 6-2 win in the first set before Mount Vernon’s Carlye Bishop and Hannah Ruegsegger proceeded to win the next two 6-3, 6-3.

Madison-Grant 3, Elwood 2
The Argylls used wins in both doubles matches at in the No. 3 singles action to slip past the Panthers.
Elwood’s Kalie Creamer and Miranda Green each won in singles action before the tide turned.
The Argylls’ Lynn Robinson defeated Nami Sato 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3 singles, and the doubles tandems of Lindsey Hudson and Steffanie Powell and Courtney Sizelove and Natalie Chapel each secured victories.
The Argylls improve to 3-8 on the year and 2-1 in the CIC.

Alexandria 3, Muncie Burris 2
The Tigers won two singles matches and a doubles contest to defeat the Owls.
Melissa Montgomery and Abbe Cox both picked up singles wins for the Tigers, who improved to 13-3. The team of Bri Foster and Megan Wright sealed the win for Alexandria.

Frankton 3, Greenfield-Central 2
The Eagles grabbed two singles wins and a doubles victory to beat the Cougars. Taylor Rhoades, Anna Neese and the team of Katie Coryell and Mollee Deckard were winners for Frankton (7-2).

TRACK & FIELD
Elwood boys win; girls lose
The Elwood boys track team defeated Tri-Central 70-51. The Panthers won 10 events at the meet.
The girls team fell to Tri-Central 80-29, but not without an exciting day from Marisol Salinas.
Salinas won three events and was second in a fourth, winning the 100-meter hurdles (18.5), 100-meter dash (13.8) and the shot put with a toss of 26-feet, 2.5 inches.
