Tuesday's area roundup: Highland baseball wins

MUNCIE — Highland’s Kolin Jarrett tied the game with a seventh-inning double and Chandler Sidwell put the Scots baseball team ahead for good in the eighth in a 6-2 Olympic Conference victory over Muncie South Tuesday.
Bronson Doggett was the winning pitcher, allowing just five hits and striking out eight. Jake Millikan and Taylor Hopkins each had two hits, including a double. Hopkins knocked in two runs.
The two teams will play a rematch at Highland today. Highland is 5-8 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

New Castle 7, Anderson 4
Two AHS pitchers combined to give up just six hits, but walks hampered the Indians’ chances in this North Central Conference clash.
Anderson led 4-2 after the top half of the fourth inning in this road contest, but couldn’t hold that lead and was unable to score any more. The Indians are 8-5 overall and 0-3 in the league.

Oak Hill 5, Frankton 3
Nate Cress stuck out nine Oak Hill hitters in six innings and teammate Brandon France had two hits including a solo home run in the first inning.
But the Eagles fell to 6-7 and 0-3 in the Central Indiana Conference with the loss.

Madison-Grant 11, Alexandria 1
The Argylls had a quartet of players with two hits apiece to power the five-inning win over the Tigers.
Andrew Wilson, Nate Hiatt, Andrew Stroup and Jacob Morrical each had two hits. Hiatt drove in three runs while Wilson and Stroup plated two each.
Madison-Grant is 7-9 and notched its first Central Indiana Conference win of the season. Jordan Baker took the loss for Alexandria.

Knightstown 11, Liberty Christian 3
The Lions fell into a 5-0 hole in the first inning and never recovered.
Jacob Poore had two hits and Joe Huff drove in two runs for Liberty Christian. The Lions dropped to 3-6 on the season.

SOFTBALL
Shenandoah 6, Centerville 1
Kasey Short yielded no earned runs or walks and struck out 12 in going the distance for the Raiders.
Freshman Yardley Collett had her first career home run for Shenandoah, while teammates Ashlyn Thomas and Mary Spiker each had a double.
Shenandoah evened its record at 7-7.

Oak Hill 8, Elwood 3
Elwood stranding 14 base runners in a CIC loss.
Kelsey Whitson and Kayla Rider each had two hits for the Panthers. Rider also knocked in two runs. Elwood is 5-7 on the season and 0-5 in the CIC.

New Palestine 3, Highland 0
Katie Lee and Jarah Ice each had a pair of hits for the Scots, but the rest of the team managed just one more.
Highland drops to 11-4 with the loss.

New Castle 10, Anderson 6
The Indians had seven errors and gave up 10 hits in losing in the North Central Conference for the third time in as many games.
Erica Couch had two hits, one of them a home run for AHS. Kristen Couch and Morgan Jarvis each drove in two.

GIRLS TENNIS
Alexandria 4, Mississinewa 1
The match was much closer than the score indicated in the battle of two teams unbeaten in CIC play.
The Tigers swept the singles to assure themselves of the win, but Melissa Montgomery had to use two tiebreakers to win at No. 1 and Abbe Cox needed three sets to win at No. 2.
Alexandria is 12-3 overall and 3-0 in the loop.

Highland 5, New Castle 0
In the Scots’ shutout of the Trojans, only one player lost more than one game in a set.
Kelsey McFadden, Ashlan Allison, Emily Jones and Alaina Coplin combined to drop just two games in doubles for Highland. The Scots remain unbeaten after 14 matches this season.

Anderson 5, Elwood 0
The Indians lost only one set in blanking the Panthers.
At No. 2 singles, Alex Thanas won, 6-0, 6-0. Anderson is 6-4 with the win.

Shenandoah 3, Lapel 2
The Bulldogs were able to claim the two top singles matches, but failed to get another point.
In No. 1 doubles, Alyssa Bennett and Lindsey Rice won a close match over Lapel’s Emily Putman and Meghan Peterson, 7-6, 6-4. Lapel now stands 3-8 on the season.

Frankton 3, Hamilton Heights 2
The Eagles managed wins at all spots except No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles to get their sixth victory in eight matches.
Anna Neese scored a big point for Frankton at No. 2 singles, winning 6-3, 6-3.

Boys golf
Noblesville 158, Guerin Catholic 179, Liberty Christian 202
The Lions’ Alex Stinson shot a medalist 36, but only one of his teammates was able to break 60.
The loss dropped Liberty Christian to 0-6 on the season.

Boys track & field
Highland 103, Yorktown 29
The Scots won every event in this lopsided victory.
Nathan Walters and Jamie Mallory each won two individual events and were on a pair of winning relay teams for Highland. The Scots are 6-0-1 on the season.

Eastbrook 83, Frankton 37, Madison-Grant 36
Blake Hamilton won two distance events for the Eagles to enable Frankton to slide past the Argylls into second place overall.

Girls track & field
Eastbrook 82, Frankton 50, Madison-Grant 24
Frankton’s Heather Herrmann claimed blue ribbons in the two distance events to power the Eagles to a solid second place in this three-way meet.
