Anderson softball accepting registrations
The Anderson Community Youth Softball Alliance, consisting of the Geater Center, Anderson Parks Department and Wilson Boys & Girls Club is accepting registration for the July softball league. Any volunteer or anybody wanting to join the alliance or donate equipment to the league should contact J.R. Smith at (765) 642-9188.
AHS boys basketball camp set
The 14th Annual Ron Hecklinski Anderson Indians Summer Basketball Camp will have two camps in early June at the Wigwam, 14th and Lincoln streets. The shooting camp will be from noon to 2:30 p.m. June 2-4, and costs $50. The fundamentals camp will be from noon to 2:30 p.m. June 9-12 and will cost $55. Boys from all grade levels are eligible, and participants should bring gym shoes, white socks and a T-shirt. The registration deadline is the first day of each camp. White golf outing to be held June 28
The First Annual James (J.R.) White Memorial Golf Outing is set for 2 p.m. June 28 at Killbuck Golf Club. The four-man scramble will be played with a shotgun start, and will cost $200 per team. Relay for Life plans golf outing
Community Hospital Anderson’s Relay for Life team will sponsor a golf outing at 1 p.m. June 7 at Edgewood Golf Course. The cost is $50 per player, which includes 18 holes, a cart and lunch. The winning team will receive $400. There also will be multiple drawings for door prizes. All proceeds will go directly to the American Cancer Society. AU sets soccer camps
n Anderson University’s Little Kickers Soccer Camp is set for 9:30 a.m. to noon July 7-10 (sessions I and II) and 5:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 4-7 (sessions III and IV) at the AU soccer fields. Ages 4-12 are eligible. The cost is $60. Participants receive a ball, T-shirt and picture. The camp is designed for introducing younger players to the sport. n Anderson University’s overnight and day soccer camps will be July 6-10 at the AU soccer fields. The cost for the day camp, which will be from 9:15 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. each day, is $250, and campers will receive a ball, T-shirt, evaluation and a picture. The overnight camp cost is $325. ASC schedules tennis camps, clinics
ASC’s 2008 summer tennis camps and clinics are open for registration. The eight-week summer session begins June 2. Participants can register for one week or all eight weeks. Morning and evening classes for all ages and abilities are scheduled, with private and semi-private lessons available. Grandview Golf Course will be closed from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday because of aeration of the course.
Highland football offers youth camp
The Highland High School football program and head coach Randy Albano will be accepting applications for students going into grades four through eight. Applications can be picked up at the HHS athletic office. The camp will run June 9-12 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day. The camp will cost $30, and all proceeds will be donated to the Highland Football Booster Club. Each camper will receive a Highland Football T-shirt. The camp will be held at the HHS football practice field, located behind the softball diamond. Ruth/Ripken league sign-ups under way
The Anderson Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken Baseball League is now signing up for its Seniors Division, ages 16 to 18. Fees are $70 per player, and a birth certificate is required. Sign-ups will be from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Cal Ripken Division Diamonds at 200 N. Madison Ave., next to the Soap Box Derby track, and from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and May 23 and May 28-30 at Crawford Field, located at 25th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Anderson Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken Baseball League currently has scholarships available for interested players. The Ripken league is available for ages 4-12, while the Ruth league has a 13-15-year-old division and a 16-18-year-old division. Riverfield to have benefit golf outing
The Riverfield Little League in Chesterfield will have a fund-raising golf tournament June 1 at Grandview Golf Course, with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Registration will be at 11:30 a.m., with lunch at noon. The cost is $50 per player and $200 for a foursome. The cost includes green fees, cart, lunch, dinner and a door prize ticket. Brown to participate in charity race

PHHS boys basketball golf scramble set
The 11th Annual Pendleton Heights Boys Basketball Booster Club Florida Scramble Golf Tournament is set for 9 a.m. June 12 at Idlewold Golf Club. The cost is $45 per person or $180 per team, which covers green fees, cart, drinks and pizza after the tournament. The handicap rule is at least 40 per team, with no more than one person having a handicap of 6 or lower. Proceeds will benefit the 2008-09 PHHS team. The team entry deadline is June 13. Highland basketball clinic set
Highland High School’s Boys Basketball Skills Clinic is set for June 9-12 from 2 to 4 p.m. each day for grades K-8 at Highland High School. The cost is $35 for those who register by May 30, and $45 for late registrations. There is a family discount of $20 per additional family member. All campers will receive a T-shirt. Softball leagues starting soon
The Anderson Parks and Recreation Department announces the beginning of the 2008 softball season. The men’s league will start Monday, with the coed league to start June 1 and the women’s league to start June 2. There is a 14-game schedule, and the entry fee is $353. Benefit MMA event set
Iron Cage Clash, a Mixed Martial Arts event to benefit diabetes patients, is set for May 31 at the Anderson National Guard Armory. Ultimate Fighting Championships fighter Chris “Lights Out” Lytle will be there, along with undefeated Steve Fritz, Bodog Superstar Dave “The Doctor” Love, and a charity match featuring ESPN announcer Joe York and THB sports reporter Quintin Harlan. Sand volleyball league beginning
The Anderson Parks and Recreation Department is organizing an open and coed sand volleyball league, to begin May 28. Monday nights are open, and Wednesday nights are coed. BSU football camps set
The Ball State University football staff has scheduled five football camps for this summer. The camps are open to all high school students, and the Ball State coaches plus area college coaches will lead the instructions and drills. Basketball camps to take place in summer
Sports, Inc. in Anderson will have the 14th Annual Basketball Shooting Camp and the 14th Annual High Intensity Basketball Camp this summer. The shooting camp will be June 16-19, and the high intensity camp will be July 28-31. Players entering the second through fifth grades will attend from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Players entering the sixth through ninth grades will attend from 12:30 to 3 p.m. The cost is $55 per camp, with discounts for players from the same immediate family. AU to host basketball camp
The Anderson University basketball staff and players will conduct the Anderson University Basketball Camp from July 7 through 10. The morning session (9 a.m. to noon) is for girls and boys entering first through fourth grades, while the afternoon session (1 to 4 p.m.) is for girls entering the fifth through eighth grades. Campers receive a camp T-shirt, instructional materials, camper evaluation and player awards. The camp fee for each session is $65. MCGA Junior Golf Tour announces schedule
The MCGA Junior Golf Tour has announced the 2008 summer schedule. As always, the Tour consists of stops at all nine Madison County golf clubs and country clubs. The Tour is open to all Madison County residents between the ages of 5 and 18, or any child or grandchild of a member of a local club. All area junior high school golfers and high school golfers are encouraged to compete. Entry forms will be available soon at all local golf courses. Entry fees are $8 per event and payable to the MCGA. The Tour will be highlighted with the annual year-ending Tour Championship with Player-of-the-Year awards given out to all age groups. Boys and Girls Club begins baseball leagues
The Wilson Boys & Girls Club is starting a new baseball league called RBI, which is sponsored by Major League Baseball. The league is an instructional baseball program encouraging involvement by children ages 12 and younger. The league uses a pitching machine to simulate and replace the human pitcher. This concept eliminates walks and much of the fear of being hit by a pitch. Coaches and volunteers are being sought, and registration is under way. For more information, call J.R. The Wilson Boys & Girls Club, along with Major League Baseball, is starting a free baseball league called Rookie League. Youths ages 5-13 can play in this league, which uses a pitching machine in its games. To sign up, just stop by Boys & Girls Club and see J.R. Martin. A $10 membership fee, which will qualify your child to participate in any Boys and Girls Club program and sporting program, is required. Call (765) 642-9188 for more information. Longhorns to hold tryouts

The Lapel Girls Softball League, a member of the Babe Ruth Softball Organization, is having late sign-ups for girls ages 8-14. Brooklyn Little League still accepting players
Baseball and softball registration for the Brooklyn Little League are still being accepted. Boys ages 5-18 as of April 30 and girls ages 5-16 as of Dec. 31, 2007, are eligible. The cost is $55 for the first child, and $25 for each additional child, plus an additional $15 fee per child for late sign-ups. A copy of the child’s birth certificate and proof of residency (gas or electric bill) is required.
