ANDERSON — The 13th-ranked Highland girls tennis team remained unbeaten and improved to 13-0 after winning its own invitational Saturday.
The Scots dropped just one of 15 matches, defeating Blue River 5-0, Muncie Burris 4-1 and Northwestern 5-0.
Alex Hammel swept her No. 1 singles matches for the Scots, dropping just seven games in the process and winning all three matches in straight sets. Mercy Scott, meanwhile, lost just one game, winning twice by 6-0, 6-0 tallies. Abby Beard won both of her No. 3 singles matches, losing only three games.
Kelsey McFadden and Ashlan Allison each won their No. 1 doubles matches in straight sets, and the Scots used three different No. 2 doubles combinations including Michaela Hammel, Alaina Coplin, Emily Jones and Beard en route to three more straight-set wins.
Raiders edge Bulldogs in WRAC match
Lapel posted a pair of 3-2 wins before losing the championship to Shenandoah 4-1.
Emily Putnam, the Bulldogs No. 3 singles player, went unbeaten on the day. Jill Gentry and JoJo Gentry were unbeaten until losing in the title match. Lapel is now 3-7 on the season. No other Shenandoah information was available.
Baseball
Connersville 10-8, Highland 0-5
The Scots were limited to two hits in the opener and had a second-game rally fall short in losing an Olympic Conference doubleheader.
In the nightcap, Brad Kendricks had three hits while Kaleb Ogden had two hits including a home run for the Scots (4-8).
Daleville 11-13, Lakeview Christian 1-0
The Class A No. 9 Broncos improved to 10-3 with Saturday’s home doubleheader sweep of the Lions.
Cody Walters and Nathaniel Carroll combined to no-hit Lakeview Christian in the first game, as Walters struck out 13 batters in five innings. Zach Tumulty and Bryant Wagner combined for nine strikeouts while allowing just two hits in the second game.
Tumulty went 3-for-5 on the day with three RBIs, a triple and four stolen bases. Griffin Corn was 4-for-4 with a double and four steals. Jordan Peters drove in four runs on the day.
Shenandoah 7-8, Wes-Del 2-7
Jerrod Moore was the key in the Raiders opener and a rare double play ended the nightcap as Shenandoah swept Wes-Del.
Moore had eight strikeouts in pitching the win and he also had two RBIs at the plate. Luke Hamm had three hits and stole four bases in the second contest. That game ended on a double play that went from third baseman Cody Young to first baseman Corey Criswell back to Young.
The Raiders moved to 3-6 with the two wins.
Liberty Christian 5-7, Southern Wells 6-3
The Lions split a doubleheader on the road at Southern Wells to move to 3-4.
Josh Freeman was 5-for-9 on the day. Tim Zeigler went 4-for-6 at the plate in the two games. Rob Earley had three hits in seven at bats for the Lions.
Girls track & field
Muncie South Invitational
Anderson had one individual champion and a relay win while Highland had one individual blue ribbon.
The Indians Jasmine McGhee won the 200 meters in 27.02 seconds and was on the winning 400 relay team with Dainyell, Holly Watkins and Mariah Beverly. McGhee also missed winning the 100 by just .24 seconds.
Kierra Allen won the discus for Highland with a heave of 114 feet 8 inches, which was 15 feet better than second place.
Highland was fifth in the team standings and Anderson sixth.
Softball
Highland wins twice, Alexandria wins once
The Scots’ Lauren Williamson blanked the Tigers on five hits in a 4-0 opening-game win, and Kayla Byrne had six hits in the two games to power Highland’s two wins. The Scots topped Liberty Christian 15-0 in their second game.
Williamson struck out 10 Alexandria hitters in the shutout.
In the game against the Lions, Jarah Ice had five hits and 5 RBIs with a double and a triple. Katie Lee had two hits in each game for the Scots.
Erin Overman had two doubles and 4 RBIs as Alexandria got past Liberty Christian 8-5 in the day’s third contest.
Anderson 0-4, Huntington North 1-2
The Tribe split a doubleheader with their North Central Conference rivals, but the Vikings won the game that counted toward the NCC standings.
Huntington North’s lone run in Anderson’s 1-0 game 1 loss was unearned. Morgan Jarvis, Erica Couch and Anna Lacey had the Indians’ three hits.
In the second game, freshman Kendra Walters scattered seven hits in a complete-game effort. Chrissy Stephens and Kristen Couch each went 2-for-3 for the Tribe (6-6, 0-2 NCC).
Argylls take Grant Four title
Shelby Wells had five hits on the day and Sara Webster was the winning pitcher for Madison-Grant in a 10-3 Grant Four title game win against previously unbeaten Mississinewa.
In the opener, a 10-0 M-G win over Oak Hill, Wells had two hits, scored two runs and drove in two. In the nightcap, she had three hits. Bonnie Parker drove in four runs on the day.
Webster gave up six hits with no walks and 13 strikeouts against the Indians.
Boys golf
Lions’ Stinson takes Heritage Invitational
The Lions golf team placed ninth at the Heritage Invitational at the South Grove golf course in Indianapolis Saturday.
Fishers won first place with a team score of 297. Heritage Christian’s second-place score of 321 just edged out Beech Grove (322) who finished third.
The Lions ended the day with a score of 377.
Alex Stinson was the medalist for the event with a score of 71 to earn selection to the all-tournament team.
Teammate Evan Gibson joined him on the squad with a score of 78.
