The New Castle baseball team erupted for seven runs in the top of the seventh inning on Friday to rally for a 12-9 victory over the host Highland Scots.
Highland (4-6) held an 8-5 advantage through the first six frames. For the Scots, Chase Freeman clubbed a pair of home runs and had three hits altogether, while Joey Hart was 2-of-4 at the plate.
The Scots are at Olympic Athletic Conference rival Connersville this morning for a doubleheader against the Spartans.
Oak Hill 5, Alexandria 4
Sophomore Zach Yeagy pitched a complete game for the Tigers, striking out nine in the process, but it wasn’t enough as the host Golden Eagles prevailed.
Junior Kaleb Tatman scored two of Alexandria’s runs and also was 2-of-3 at the plate. Sophomore Drew Overman produced a two-run single in a losing effort.
Alexandria is now 3-7 overall and 0-2 in Central Indiana Conference play.
Softball
Hamilton Hts. 16-7, Lapel 5-8
The Bulldogs salvaged a split with the visiting Huskies with an 8-7 victory in the second game of a doubleheader.
Freshman Kayleigh Schroeder went 3-for-3 at the plate for Lapel (3-10) in Game 2, while sophomore third baseman Kourtney Allender was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Senior Katelynn Ash produced two hits and three runs driven in.
In the Game 1 loss, Ash, Allender and sophomore Rachel Tarlton all came through with two hits.
