Thursday's area roundup: PH softball edges Noblesville in 15 innings

Senior Erin Falkenberry closed the book on a 15-inning softball marathon on Thursday for Class 4A No. 9 Pendleton Heights, driving in Shonda Garringer for a 3-2 victory over visiting Noblesville.
The victory improved the Arabians to 14-3 entering today’s home date against Hamilton Southeastern.
Overall, Pendleton Heights recorded eight hits. Handling pitching chores for the Arabians were Lindsey Beisser and Lainie Dishroon.
Elwood 10, Liberty Christian 5
The host Panthers pounded out 12 hits with Kayla Rider’s three leading the way. Brittney McPhearson, Kelsey Whitson and Kristen Hibst had two apiece for Elwood, while Paige Hanlin’s lone hit produced a run.
For Liberty Christian, Karon Earley came through with two hits, as did Taylor Ellis and Kate Driskell.

Madison-Grant 6, Oak Hill 1
A three-run first inning set the tone for the host Argylls (11-3), who were led by pitcher Sara Webster’s two-hitter.
Offensively, Madison-Grant received two hits apiece from Kendra Stitt and Keisha Head, while Bonnie Parker nailed a two-run homer.

Sheridan 5, Lapel 4
The host Bulldogs rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but fell short against the Blackhawks.
Katelynn Ash’s two hits for Lapel (2-9) were a double and triple. Stephanie Murphy also provided two hits and Kourtney Allender belted a triple for two runs scored.

Hamilton SE 9, Shenandoah 5
The visiting Royals erupted for five runs in the first frame and the Raiders couldn’t catch up. Laken Goff had a hit for three RBIs for Shenandoah (6-7) and Mandy Townsend came through with two hits.

GIRLS TENNIS
Anderson 3, Fishers 2
The Indians ran their record to 4-3 by sweeping singles competitions with Meaghan Ellis, Brittany Woschitz and Alex Thanos all recording straight-set victories.

Alexandria 3, Frankton 2
The Tigers continued their outstanding season with a victory against the Eagles to improve to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in the Central Indiana Conference.
No. 1 singles player Melissa Montgomery won for the Tigers, as did Alicia Pratt at No. 3 singles and the No. 2 doubles combination of Bri Foster and Megan Wright. For Frankton (5-2), Anna Neese won at No. 2 singles and the No. 1 doubles tandem of Carissa Ward and Kaylie Ritenour took care of business.

Shenandoah 5, Madison-Grant 0
The Raiders dominated play with singles players Lauren Wilson, Mariah Smith and Kelly Ray coming through. In doubles, Lindsey Rice and Alyssa Bennett prevailed, as did Brittany Webber and Emily Vetor.

Greenfield-Central 3, Lapel 2
The Cougars were too much for Lapel (1-6), though the Bulldogs did pick up wins from Jill Gentry at No. 1 singles and JoJo Gentry at No. 2 singles.

BASEBALL
Eastbrook 6, Madison-Grant 1
The host Argylls dropped to 5-7 with Eastbrook’s big inning being a four-run seventh. Justin Cornelius produced M-G’s lone RBI.
Mississinewa 12, Frankton 2
Senior Steven Browning had a double and two RBIs for the visiting Eagles (6-6), but it wasn’t enough as the host Indians had 13 hits.

BOYS GOLF
Anderson 175, Muncie South 186, Alexandria 195
Spencer Morris carded a 9-hole score of 41 at Edgewood Country Club to pace the victorious Indians.
Others breaking 50 for AHS were Patrick Freeman (43), Eric Elpers (44) and Chase Austin (47). Alexandria’s low scores came from Derrick Glass, Matt Johnson and Austin Beeman, all with 48s.

Lapel 165, Knightstown 171
Brodie Williams’ 36 was good enough for medalist honors and to lead the Bulldogs (3-1) to a key road victory.
Seth Bays and Dylan Crosley each shot 42 for Lapel, Brock Forrer and Mason Lloyd carded 45s and John Hettinga fired a 48.

GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
Alexandria 68, Taylor 63
Senior Theresa Rangle posted three individual victories for the Tigers, winning the 800-meter run (2:50.8), the 1600-meter run (6:30) and the 3200 (15:00).
Alexandria’s other winners were Amy May in the 100-meter dash (14.5), Kara Smith in the high jump (4-10), Ashley Williams in the shot put (31-3 1/2), Jennifer Hodson in the discus (74-10) and Tayler Hunter in the 400 (1:07.06).

Covenant Christian 76, Lapel 39, Park Tudor 39
Freshman Leah Steele produced four first-places for the Bulldogs in the triangular meet. The 400-meter relay also proved victorious for Lapel in a time of 55.03 seconds.

Shenandoah 83, Knightstown 38
The Raiders dominated behind senior Sarah Bromagem, a winner in the discus (88-8) and the 800-meter run (2:45).

BOYS TRACK & FIELD
Alexandria 72, Taylor 54
Cory Pollen took home blue ribbons in the long jump (17-4) and high jump (5-8) to lead the Tigers over Taylor.

Lapel 72, Covenant Christian 39, Park Tudor 38
The Bulldogs remained unbeaten on the season behind the efforts of senior sprinter Brooks Busch, who won the 400-meter dash in 57.2 seconds and teamed with Jayson Mills, Chandler Guion and Trent Crandall to win the 1600 relay in 3:42.
Junior Chris Thompson won the 200-meter dash in 24.6 seconds for Lapel.

LOCAL JUDO
Bostic wins bronze at Junior Pan Ams
Lapel High School sophomore Kelsi Bostic secured a bronze medal April 11 in the 2008 Junior Pan American Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Bostic participated in judo in the ages 17-20 division, going 2-2, a mark that included a loss to the eventual gold medal-winner athlete.
April 13 at the Argentina Open, Bostic won a silver medal.
