Area prep sports roundup: Stinson, Scots win golf triangular

Liberty Christian’s Alex Stinson took individual medalist honors and Highland boys golf team won team honors Tuesday in a triangular meet at Killbuck Golf Course.
Stinson, one of the area’s top golfers, carded a 38 for medalist honors. That was three shots better than the 41 shot by Highland’s Zach Bailey, the Scots’ top score.
Strong, balanced scoring by Highland led the team to a total of 171, five strokes better than second place Elwood with a 176. Liberty Christian finished the nine holes with a team total of 197.
Highland got 43s from Trey Knight and Andrew Hanna, a 44 from Austin Stagman and a 46 from Chris Thompson.
Elwood’s Michael Melvin and Brian Bush each shot a 41 as the best Panthers score.
Highland now has a 4-1 record, Elwood is 4-2 and the Lions are still looking for a win after four matches.

Monroe Central 162, Richmond 168, New Castle 172, Anderson 179
Spencer Morris carded a 39 for Anderson to lead the Indians but the team had only two other golfers break 50 (Chase Austin 44, Patrick Freeman 46).
Richmond’s Rajan Bawa carded a 37 for medalist honors.
The Tribe remain winless after their first six matches this season.

Frankton 158, Sheridan 168
The Eagles rode a pair of 3-over-par medalist 36s from Ryan Spangler and Chris Nelson to a 10-stroke victory at Grandview Golf Course.
Frankton evens its record at 2-2.

Softball
Pendleton Heights 14, Rushville 0
Erin Falkenberry and Stephanie Robinson each had three hits as the Arabians remained unbeaten (2-0) in the Hoosier Heritage Conference with this road win, shortened to five innings.
One of Falkenberry’s hits was a triple. She drove in three runs and Robinson plated two. Lainie Dishroon was the winning pitcher.
The Arabians’ overall record is now 13-3.

Highland 14, Delta 4
The Scots broke out the big sticks and shortened the win over the Golden Eagles to six innings.
Krista Davis and Jarah Ice each had three hits, including a double. Davis drove in five runs. Kayla Byrne and Brooke Kempher each had two hits and drove in three runs.
Katie Lee pitched the complete game for the Scots, giving up six hits and just one earned run. The win was Highland’s seventh in 10 games.

Madison-Grant 10, Daleville 0
The Argylls also dispatched their foe in one less than the regulation seven innings. Cady Riggs provided the power with four hits, one of them a three-run home run in a five-run third.
Sam Fields, Bonnie Parker, Sam Yeagy and Dana Runyan had two hits apiece for Madison-Grant. Three Argylls pitchers combined for a one-hit shutout of the Broncos. Madison-Grant is now 9-3 on the season.

Frankton 2, Wes-Del 1
It took nine innings, nothing new for the Eagles, but Frankton edged Wes-Del to go 7-3 on the season.
The Eagles’ Lexi Seager drove in Jenelle Kelly with a double for the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth. Mollie Hamilton also had a double for the Eagles, who had just four hits on the day.
Sami Green gave up five hits, no walks and struck out seven to get the win.

Shenandoah 14, Knightstown 1
The Raiders had a seven-run seventh inning to close out this win and raise their record to 5-6.
Yardley Collett was a star both in the pitcher’s circle and at the plate. She gave up just two hits and walked one while striking out 11. She doubled that hit figure with the bat, getting two doubles among her four hits with two doubles and two RBIs. Stacey Kinnett also had three hits with a double and two RBIs.

Indpls. Lutheran 8, Lapel 0
The Bulldogs managed just a Katelyn Ash single in the defeat, the team’s seventh in nine outings.

BASEBALL
Anderson 18, Muncie South 8
The Indians (8-1) warmed up for today’s showdown against city rival Highland with a six-inning rout of the Rebels.
Jeremy Nave, Nolan Earley and Drew Hollow each had three hits for AHS. Nave and Earley each drove in three runs and scored three times. Tyler Campbell, Blake Wilson, Jake Vicars and Zach Gooding had two hits each. Campbell drove in four runs.

Blackford 15, Frankton 2
The Eagles were hammered by a nine-run seventh inning from conference rival Blackford.
Cody Ryan and Seth Jackson each had a pair of hits for the Eagles, while Garrett Robinson scored two runs and clouted a triple. Frankton is 5-5 overall and 0-1 in the CIC.

Eastbrook 14, Alexandria 3
Zach Yeagy and Austin Quinn had two hits each for Alexandria but the Tigers were stopped in six innings.
The Tigers are 3-6 overall and this was their Central Indiana Conference opener.

Daleville 10, Randolph Southern 1
Zach Tumulty gave up just one hit and struck out 12 to help the Broncos to their eighth win in 10 games.
Cody Walters and Griffin Corn each had three hits for Daleville. Walters also had two doubles, two runs scored and three RBIs. The win runs the Broncos Mid-Eastern Conference record to 4-0.

GIRLS TENNIS
Madison-Grant 3, Blackford 2
The Argylls failed to get wins at the top two singles positions, but won everything else for their second win in eight matches.
At No. 2 doubles, Madison-Grant’s Courtney Sizelove and Natalie Chapel won the first set 6-1, but lost the second 4-6. They rallied to win the deciding set 6-4.

Anderson 3, Warren Central 2
The Indians got wins at all three singles spots to secure the win and level their record at 3-3 Monday night.
Anderson’s wins came from Alisha Cummings, Meaghan Ellis and Brittany Woschitz.
