Economy:
Clinton’s plan focuses on strengthening the middle class by lowering taxes for middle class families, providing affordable health care, making college affordable, working on retirement security plans, attempting to balance the budget and creating high-wage jobs, as well as strengthening unions.
Iraq War:
Clinton proposes a three-step plan to end the war and pull American troops out of Iraq. The first step would include a phased disengagement from the county; the second step includes sending aid to Iraq and nominating a United Nations representative to broker piece between the political factions in Iraq. Finally, the third step focuses on stabilizing Iraq’s political situation.
Gas prices:
Clinton plans to impose a profits tax on oil companies and temporarily suspend the 18.4-cent-per-gallon federal gas tax and 24.4-cent-per-gallon federal diesel tax. The tax on the oil companies would pay the difference made by the suspended gas tax. Clinton also proposes a stronger effort to hold OPEC accountable for production numbers.
Health care:
Every American should have the opportunity to have health care. Hillary’s American Health Choices Plan provides the same insurance Congress has to those who want to change plans or are not covered. Clinton would give tax credits to small businesses that provide health care, and health insurance companies cannot deny someone because of a pre-existing condition.
Veterans:
Clinton pushes a modified GI Bill of Rights, which includes a guarantee for equal access for education and low-interest home loans. She plans to provide affordable health care for veterans, and give them the benefits they need to transition back into American society successfully.
Education:
Clinton plans to end No Child Left Behind. She has goals to recruit more teachers and principals for urban and rural schools, as well as cut the minority dropout rate in half. In higher education, Clinton says she wants to create a $3,500 college tax credit, expand the maximum Pell Grant and strengthen community colleges.
Immigration:
Clinton plan calls for comprehensive reform of immigration laws, including strengthening borders, giving assistance to local and state governments and enacting strict penalties on employers who hire illegal immigrants.
Energy:
Clinton’s plan to cap carbon emissions and cut foreign oil imports calls for more research funding into alternative fuels such as ethanol, as well as plug-in hybrid opportunities. Clinton promotes using more fuel-efficient vehicles with standards of 55 miles per gallon, and giving automakers help to encourage improvement.
She also focuses on renewable energy sources such as wind farms and solar power. Clinton has proposed the creation of a “National Energy Council” and requiring federal buildings be zero emissions buildings.
