Highland singers to entertain teachers

— The Highland High School Singers will perform a medley of holiday tunes as the featured show choir during the winter luncheon meeting of the Madison County Retired Teachers Association on Monday, Dec. 10, at the Days Inn of Anderson Conference Center, 5901 Scatterfield Road.
Under the baton of new choral music director Dustin Ramirez, the HHS singers also will appear in the annual Festival of the Trees holiday concert at the Paramount Theatre. The musical talents of the student performers also will be showcased during the holiday season in the group’s annual holiday concert at Highland High School on Dec. 9.
Ramirez, an HHS graduate and a former member of the Highland Singers, is a 2006 graduate of Anderson University with a bachelor’s degree in music education.
In 2006, he accepted a position as music instructor at Main and Peterson elementary schools at the U.S. Coast Guard Base in Kodiak, Alaska.
This fall, he accepted the position as director of choral music at HHS, along with the opportunity to return to his alma mater and home community.
Following the luncheon and music program, there will be a short business session.
MCRTA member registration begins at 11:30 a.m.
The price of luncheon reservations for the December meeting is $11 per person, and reservations must be confirmed no later than Nov. 30 by calling 778-3907 or e-mailing gardensglory@aol. com.
A special reminder to MCRTA members that December is the month to submit their 2008 records of volunteer hours contributed to youth and community services during the year. These records should be mailed before Dec. 10 to the MCRTA Community Services Coordinator, 4108 E. 400N, Middletown, IN 47356, or records may be submitted at the December meeting.
The hours of volunteer service are reported to the Indiana Retired Teachers Association to help verify to Indiana legislators that retired educators continue to support their communities through a variety of volunteer efforts.
MCRTA membership is open to all retired teachers in Madison County. Spouses of retired teachers, retired school nurses, secretaries and other school employees may become associate members. First-year membership for newly retired teachers is free.
