Ayn Rand to be staged by Alexandria theater

For The Herald Bulletin

Alexandria Community Theater will stage a revival performance of a change-of-pace play for its autumn 2007 production. “Night of January 16” will be presented by ACT at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Alexandria-Monroe High School auditorium. Tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for children and can be purchased at the door.

The play was originally staged by ACT in May 1972.

“Night of January 16,” the only play written by Ayn Rand, deals tersely with a famous murder trial, following American court procedure in a realistic manner.

A unique aspect about the play is that the jury is selected from the theater audience and the verdict, whether “guilty” or “not guilty,” is totally up to the audience. Because of this twist, the cast must learn two endings to the drama.

Director Pamela Day has combined a large cast of veteran ACT performers and several newcomers to the stage. Cast members include Elizabeth Hill, Vickie Griffin, Betty Custer, Ralph Day, David Cagley, Renee Allen, Debbi Hammel, Jim Moore, Marilyn Moore, Denis Kuhn, Nick Wooley, Callie Conrad, Sally Vasbinder, Don Lynch, Jan Lynch, Ned Hannah, Dylan Dockery and Amy Kollars.
