The Women of Trinity Guild of Trinity Episcopal Church, awarded $500 grants to four elementary schools in Anderson at their monthly breakfast on Oct. 4.

Receiving the grants were Milissa Crum, assistant principal at Tenth Street School; Donna Light, second-grade teacher at Valley Grove; Jennifer Myrick of Robinson Elementary; and Kathryn Womack, social worker at Forest Hills Elementary.

Money was raised in May at the annual Salad Bowl Luncheon, which consists of their famous chicken salad and other assorted homemade salads, and breads. Each year the women decide how best to use their profits. The decision was made this year to make grants available to four elementary schools. St. Joseph’s Guild, the men’s group, assisted in the raising of funds for the grants.

The grants target poverty issues with children to tie in with the United Nations Millennium Goals, adopted by the Protestant Episcopal Church of America. Schools submitted their applications dealing with hunger, homework support, school clothing, and motivation. Approximately 1,200 school children will benefit from these grants.
