Indiana 13 project begins near Fortville on Monday

FORTVILLE, Ind. — Indiana 13 will close near Fortville on Monday as crews begin work on a Major Moves Project along the roadway, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT).     In a heartbreaking 2-1, double-overtime loss to the Greenfield-Central Cougars, the Pendleton Heights Arabians just missed the chance to advance to the 2009 IHSAA girls soccer sectional finals. But they sure put up a good fight.

    PENDLETON — After a team meeting and a few anxious moments, Pendleton Heights got back on the winning track and just at the right time. The Arabians pulled together and claimed their own girls cross country sectional title Tuesday by grouping three runners in the top 10 and four in the top 15. PH scored 56 team points to 63 for Mount Vernon.

  • Pendleton Library to host Harvest Moon Festival
    PENDLETON — The Pendleton Community Public Library will host a Harvest Moon Festival on the lawn by Brown’s Pool, 591 E. Water St., from 2 p.m. Sunday, until the fire dies down. Festival activities include a children’s outdoor theater presented by Minnetrista, children’s crafts, Good’s ice cream, a magician, fall-themed treats and balloons animals.

    PENDLETON — Future brides attended a mock reception recently to showcase the offerings at the new Blu Falls Arts and Events Center. The event drew about 100 people. Targeted both at brides who placed a deposit before construction was complete and brides who have yet to make a final decision on their venue, the event displayed a variety of services available.

  • Mount Vernon beats Pendleton 38-14
    FORTVILLE — The Pendleton Heights Arabians dropped a 38-14 decision at the Mount Vernon Marauders. The Arabians fell to 1-4 on the season and in the Hoosier Heritage Conference. The Marauders upped their record to 4-1 and 3-0. Arabians coach John Broughton, “We had no offense; the defense played early but continually got put in poor position by the offense.”

  • Two juveniles charged with armed robbery in two thefts
    PENDLETON — Madison County sheriff’s deputies arrested two juveniles Thursday in connection with two convenience store armed robberies. Those arrested were a 16-year-old and a 14-year-old who were both foster children in a home in the Summerlake subdivision in the southern part of Madison County, Sheriff Ron Richardson.

  • Fifth generation of family starts school in Pendleton
    PENDLETON — A 100-year tradition for the Nowlin family passed to the next generation this school year as Jaidyn Nowlin started kindergarten classes at Pendleton Elementary School. As the fifth generation of Nowlins to attend Pendleton schools, Jaidyn is thoroughly entrenched in the community, whether he knows it or not.

    PENDLETON — Pendleton Elementary principal Bill Hutton says that school volunteer Mary Crosley is like the Energizer Bunny. She keeps going and going and going.   • Mother faces neglect charges
    PENDLETON — A Pendleton mother has been charged with neglect of her infant daughter who suffered brain damage, neurological damage and was blinded after nearly drowning in a bathtub earlier this year. Beverlie B. Lamborne, 30, of the 100 block of Adams Street, Pendleton, was arrested by Pendleton police Monday, Sept. 14 after Madison County Prosecutor Thomas Broderick Jr.

  • South Madison school renovations to cost $4 million
    PENDLETON — About $4 million will be spent to complete renovation of the former middle school building for use as an elementary school. Having previously determined to renovate the building to delay the need for construction of a new elementary school, the South Madison Community Schools board on Sept. 17 approved bids from construction companies to complete the project.

    PENDLETON — As the superintendent of South Madison Community Schools defended teacher compensation on Thursday, Sept. 3, he painted a dire picture of a financial iceberg that he said lies ahead. “If we can’t do something about insurance, this district will be bankrupt,” Superintendent Tom Warmke told the South Madison School Board.

    PENDLETON — The $1.5 million budget shortfall facing South Madison School Corporation may be the catalyst that drives the school board to adopt a new policy. The board is considering allowing non-resident students to attend the district’s schools if those students pass rigorous screening tests. The state would transfer $6,000 into the school system for each student that was accepted.
