Scots see mirror image in foes
There’s been one phrase that’s been universally bandied about by the Highland Scots when describing their opponents, the New Palestine Dragons, for tonight’s Class 4A sectional football championship game. To a man the Scots are saying that the Dragons are “very similar” or a “mirror image” of the Scots themselves.

Lind nominated for Web awards
The champagne has barely dried from the New York Yankees’ world championship celebration, and Adam Lind already is working on next season. The Highland High School grad, honored at halftime of the Scots’ football game against Pendleton Heights on Oct. 16, isn’t resting on the laurels of a breakout season with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Pacers beat Knicks 101-89 for first win
A couple of top players were already on the bench, then leading scorer Danny Granger joined them after fouling out with plenty of time left. No matter. The Indiana Pacers just won it with defense. T.J. Ford scored eight of his 16 points in the final 3:12, and the Pacers won for the first time this season, holding the New York Knicks without a field goal for the final 9-plus minutes Wednesday night in a 101-89 victory.

Highland's Kindred the picture of intensity
ANDERSON, Ind. — Highland quarterback Brad Kinred doesn’t intentionally set out to make highlight plays that get immortalized in a photograph. “It just happens,” said the Scots senior signal caller. “It just goes with the flow.” Kinred has a knack for being in the right place at the right time when there is a camera around.

AU volleyball goes 2-2 at tournament
Ravens split four games at tournament The Ravens defeated Augustana in five games (25-20, 25-15, 19-25, 24-26, 15-8), but lost to Wartburg in five games (20-25, 25-23, 25-23, 23-25, 16-14) on Friday night and defeated Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday in five games (20-25, 25-21, 24-26, 25-18, 15-10), but lost to Chicago in three games (25-19, 27-25, 25-18).

AU records season's first win at Bluffton
BLUFFTON, Ohio — The Anderson University football team defeated Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Bluffton University 28-3 on Saturday at Salzman Stadium in Bluffton, Ohio. All four Raven touchdowns were scored by defensive players and the visitors held the Beavers to 105 total yards of offense and a field goal. AU tallied 307 total yards, including a season-high 194 on the ground.

Madison-Grant volleyball falls to Southwood
Sometimes athletic contests played at very high levels are decided by which team is the better of the two. That was exactly the case Saturday when Southwood defeated Madison-Grant in three straight games in the opening round of regional volleyball play Saturday morning.

Pendleton cross-country finishes 17th
The scariest thing at Saturday’s cross country state finals was the course. Notoriously difficult even in ideal conditions, the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course was inundated by rainfall throughout the day Friday. The result, less than 24 hours later, was a swampy marsh that left overly taxed runners covered in mud.

Colts survive 49ers to stay undefeated
The Indianapolis Colts proved Sunday they are capable of a letdown. It remains to be seen whether the team is capable of a loss. Running back Joseph Addai threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Reggie Wayne on the first snap of the fourth quarter, and the Colts (7-0) gutted out an 18-14 victory against the San Francisco 49ers (3-4) at Lucas Oil Stadium.

SF ground game gives Colts another big test
Alex Smith has been stealing the headlines in San Francisco all week. He's back as 49ers starting quarterback and getting help from the recently signed Michael Crabtree and the rejuvenated Vernon Davis. It looks like a whole new offense. The unbeaten Colts aren't buying it.
