Robinson promoted to rank of major

Michael D. Robinson has been promoted to the rank of major in the U.S. Air Force.

Robinson, a space operations mission commander with the 30th Space Wing at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., has served in the military for 15 years.

He is the son of Catherine J. and Harry M. Boyd of Crystal St., Anderson.

Showalter finishes mobilization training

Army National Guard Pfc. Michael J. Showalter has arrived at the Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center, Ind., as a member of the 38th Infantry Division’s Task Force Cyclone to complete mobilization training for a future deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The 38th Infantry Division is an Army National Guard division based in Indianapolis.

Task Force Cyclone’s mission is to provide assistance to the Afghan government in security, construction, economic, and agricultural support in assigned areas of operations. They will also facilitate the reception, training, housing, and sustainment of U.S. troops entering the country.

While at the training center, soldiers work on individual training, weapons qualifications, driver’s training, medical training, Humvee rollover training, and performed other training tasks in preparation for the future deployment.

Showalter has served in the military for two years.

He is the son of Jammie L. Cobb of Anderson, and Donnie M. Showalter of New Castle.

The private is a 2006 graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School.
