Ovid lodge to serve all-you-can-eat chili
The Ovid Masonic Lodge 164 will host its third annual all-you-can-eat chili dinner from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday.
The lodge is at 1011 E. 600S, New Columbus. Tickets are $5 for adults, and children under the age of 10 eat free.
Fall bazaar planned for 5th Street UMC
Fifth Street United Methodist Church, 1124 W. Fifth St., Anderson, will host its fall bazaar from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday.
A chicken noodles dinner will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Cost is $7 for adults and $3.50 for children 4-10. Carryout will be available. There will be a trash and treasure sale, cookbooks, baked goods, kitchen knives and more, organizers said.
Maurice’s taking donated coats
Maurice’s at the Mounds Mall will begin collecting coats to benefit Dove Harbor, a women’s shelter in Anderson.
Starting Monday, people can bring in clean, gently used coats to Maurice’s and will receive a 20 percent off coupon on one regular priced item for each coat donated, to a maximum of 10 coupons. “The coats will go to those within our own community,” said Tracy Dickey, manager of Maurice’s and organizer of the coat drive. “Unfortunately, the need continues to grow so this is one small way that we can help out.” The drive ends Oct. 26. Final ’08 Wake Up event Thursday
The Chamber of Commerce for Anderson & Madison County will hold its final Wake Up Breakfast of the year at 7 a.m. Thursday in the Paramount Hardacre Ballroom. To purchase tickets, at $15 each for Chamber members and $20 for nonmembers, call (765) 642-0264. Alternatives Inc., which is observing its 30th birthday, will sponsor the breakfast. Alternatives provides emergency shelter, transitional housing, advocacy and supportive services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. In addition to the sponsor’s segment, the program will include entertainment and business and community announcements. L.J. Mechem Jr. and John Barnard will provide background music, and Bret Busby will be master of ceremonies. Rene Fuller, a case manager at Alternatives, and Jennell Kelly, a Frankton High School student and Alternatives volunteer, will each perform a musical number. “Anderson Live” with Leland Franklin, featuring interviews with chamber members about their business or organization, will be broadcast on WHBU-AM 1240 from 6 to 9 a.m.
Alex First UMC will host chicken BBQ
The Alexandria First United Methodist Church will host Sam’s Char Cart Chicken barbecue dinner on from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday. The church is located at 116 W. Broadway, Alexandria. Parking is available in the parking lot of Cox Grocery Store across the street from the church. Cost of the dinner is $7 for adults and $5 for children under 12. The menu includes 1/2 chicken, sides, drinks and dessert. Carryouts will be available. For more information, call the church office at (765) 724-3411.
