Breakfast for D-R retirees Thursday
A breakfast buffet will be served to retirees of Delco Remy Plants 8 and 17 at the Rax Restaurant, 11 and Main streets in Anderson, at 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Any retiree from these two plants is welcome to attend, cost is $7 per person. Overflow parking may use the north end of the library’s parking lot. Anderson hosting Halloween event
The Anderson Parks & Recreation Department in conjunction with the Kiwanis Club of West Anderson will host its seventh Halloween “Big” Event at the Geater Center, 1611 Chase St., on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 6 p.m. The “Big” Event will feature various organizations with booths, games, refreshments, and door prizes for a safe Halloween. There will also be a costume contest. There is no charge for children 12 and younger to attend. Vet Fest Poker Run to roll out Oct. 19
Basil Barkdull AMVETS Post 332 in Chesterfield will host the inaugural Vet Fest Poker Run on Sunday, Oct. 19, to benefit Stepping Stones for Veterans, Anderson. Stepping Stones provides a hand-up not a hand-out to homeless and chemically dependent veterans and their families. All vehicles are invited with scheduled department time at 9 a.m. from Post 332, 440 E. Main St., Chesterfield, and last in at 3 p.m. Cost is $15 per vehicle and $5 per passenger. All vehicles are welcome. The route will stop at the Marion VA National Cemetery, Marion; Grissom Air Reserve Base Museum, Peru; the Elwood Haynes Museum, Kokomo; and the James Dean Museum in Fairmount.
Post 332 Ladies Auxiliary will host a cookout, with non-alcoholic beverages upon return to the post. The festivities will include raffles and a 50/50 drawing in a family atmosphere. This is an alcohol-free event. All donations will benefit Stepping Stones for Veterans Inc.
Red Hat Chicks outing Wednesday
The Pendleton Red Hat Chicks next outing will be Wednesday. The group will leave the First United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. and travel to Hagerstown for lunch at Welliver’s Restaurant at noon. They will then visit the craft and antique shops in Hagerstown. Members are asked to call Barbara Mercer at (765) 778-3868 to RSVP.
Sigma Phi Gamma holding craft fair
Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority is holding its annual “Holiday Shoppes” Craft Fair at the Pendleton Heights High School from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 8. Applications for booth space are being accepted through Nov. 1. Call Rella Bash at (765) 778-2210 for information.
Conservation award nominations due
The Robert Cooper Audubon Society is seeking nominations for individuals and/or organizations that have made significant contributions to conservation efforts in these categories:
— Robert H. and Esther (Munro) Cooper Conservation Award: the chapter’s highest honor, for overall contributions to, conservation of, and appreciation for, the natural environment
— Clyde W. Hibbs Conservation Education Award: for excellence in educating the area’s children, youth, and /or adults on conservation issues and practices
