Sunday event will offer chili cook-off

A chili cook-off and BMX show will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Christ Lutheran Church. This is a fundraising event for the Lutheran Women’s Fellowship. The chili cook-off will be held in the church’s fellowship hall.

Contestants need to bring two gallons of their secret recipe chili to the church between 4:30 and 5 p.m. Judging will begin at 5 p.m., with prizes being awarded to Judges Choice of Best Chili and The People’s Choice Winner. There will be 10 kinds of chili.

Tickets for the chili cook-off are $5 for adults; $3 for kids and $15 for a family (2 adults and 2 kids). For $20, you can purchase five adult tickets. The 30-minute BMX stunt show including Nate, Brian and Luke Strieby will take place at 5:30 p.m. in front of the church. There is no admission charge. The church is located at 716 Rainbow Blvd. For more information, call (765) 642-2154.

‘All About Animals’ weekend at Mounds

Animals have to decide if they’re prepared to tough out the winter or head south. This weekend at Mounds State Park the staff will host “All About Animals” programs about which animals stay, how they prepare, and what foods they can still find. 

Today: 8 a.m., Breakfast with the Birds, Visitor Center; 11 a.m., Squirrel, Chipmunks and Mice, Oh My!, Visitor Center; 2:30 p.m., Tree ID Hike, Visitor Center Porch; 7:30 p.m., Reptile Refuge, campground.

Sunday: 2 p.m., Beaver Tales, Visitor Center

These programs are free and open to the public. Children under 16 should be accompanied by an adult. The gate fee to enter the park is $5/car (in-state) or $7/car (out-of-state).

Show choir set to sing Wednesday

FRANKTON — The Frankton Show Choir will present its annual fall concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Eagles Nest gymnasium. They will be joined by their special guests for the evening, the Lapel High School Show Choir.

The evening will feature music from Broadway shows, movies, solo acts, and a medley of popular music called “Awesome ’80s.”

The Frankton High School Show Choir members were invited to be guest performers Saturday night, Oct. 18, in the Lapel High School auditorium as part of Lapel’s fall show.  Admission for Wednesday’s concert is $5 for adults, and students will be charged $2. Fifty percent of the admission charge will be donated to a local charity, according to a press release.

Soroptimists to dine at Garfield’s

Soroptimist International of Anderson will be having a fundraising dinner at Garfield’s Restaurant between 5 and 9 p.m. Wednesday. Garfield’s will donate a portion of the evening’s food sales to the local women’s service club. These proceeds will be used to help fund the Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Award, Virginia M. Wagner Educational Grant and the Violet Richardson Award for volunteerism given to local women and girls. Applications for these awards and grants will be available at the fundraiser. Information about the mission of Soroptimist and membership will also be available. The local club has been serving the Anderson community for 55 years.
