Hog roast benefits historic church

Homegrown sweet corn, grilled pork chops, pulled pork sandwiches, homemade bread and desserts are all on the menu for the eighth annual Hog Roast sponsored by the Crossroads Lutheran Church Historical Preservation Society.

The event will take place from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Josiah Cromer Homestead Barn (now Howell Farms) near Middletown. Dinner will be served in the historic, circa 1857, bank barn with massive hand-hewn beams. Outside, under the shade of the old sycamore, visitors can relax and enjoy gospel and bluegrass music presented by local musicians. During the evening, the Church at Crossroads will be open for browsing memorabilia from the archives. Proceeds from the evening will go to the society for the maintenance and preservation of the historic church. For more information, call Mary Howell at (765) 759-7432.

Special gift registry set for this weekend

Engaged couples who are planning their weddings are invited to a special gift registry and beauty event at Elder Beerman at Mounds Mall. They can visit with local wedding vendors beginning Thursday through Sunday. All registered couples will receive a wedding and gift planner and the July/August issue of Bridal Guide. Also, attendees can receive a complimentary Estee Lauder treat. Frog leg, pork chop dinner on Friday

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans Foreign Wars Post 266, 3210 Columbus Ave., Anderson, will have a frog legs/baked pork chops dinner beginning at 5 p.m. Friday. Cost is $9 and includes frog legs or two baked pork chops, baked potato, salad, roll and dessert.

Olympics-bound travelers sought

Rummage, craft sale on Saturday

The Rangeline Community Center, 1405 N. Rangeline Road, Anderson, is hosting a rummage and craft sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday Tables will be set up with lots of rummage items to choose from, as well as specialized merchandise available, organizers said in a press release. There will be a 50/50 raffle, a raffle of an antique doll and of a framed painting depicting a winter scene. Food will also be available.

‘Dog Days of Summer’ Saturday at Good’s

Good’s Candy Shop, 1423 W. 53rd St., is having the its first “Good’s Dog Days of Summer.” On Saturday, from noon to 4 p.m., bring your pet in for a free dish of ice cream and a free photo. You also may enter your pet (it doesn’t have to be a dog) to be eligible for prizes. Judges will be on hand for the fun as they look for the best pet trick, the cutest and a grand prize winner to be posted on Good’s Web site. Hamburger/hot dog fry Sunday

The Sons of AMVETS will host a hamburger/hot dog fry on Sunday, beginning at noon, at 939 S. Broadway, Pendleton. Prices will be $1 for hot dogs, $2 for hamburgers and $3 for a double hamburger. Residents are invited to come out and enjoy the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard during the hamburger/hot dog fry. For more information, call (765) 778-7224.
