Foster parent info meeting July 17

Property tax filing deadline December
Dec. 31, 2008, is the deadline for filing property tax exemptions for 2008 taxes, payable in 2009. To be eligible for these deductions in 2009, a person must be the owner of their primary residence as of Dec. 31, 2008. The deadline for mobile homes was March 31, 2008. If you purchased your property or refinanced your mortgage on or before Dec. 31, 2008, and it is recorded, you have until Dec. 31, 2008, to file an exemption. If you have previously filed an exemption, you would only need to re-file if you moved or refinanced.
Edgewater collects for the Red Cross
Edgewater Woods is a collection station for cash donations for the American Red Cross. Area residents may stop by the facility at 1809 N. Madison Ave., to help those in Indiana and other states who have experienced disasters. During the month of July, the facility is also selling tickets for a 32-inch flat-screen television, to be given away on Sept. 20. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25. On July 11, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., hot dogs and root beer floats will be available for purchase. Tickets for a digital camera and digital picture frame are on sale for $6 each or 3 for $15 with all proceedings going to the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk. On Monday, July 28, Edgewater Woods will be hosting a blood drive from 8 to 11:30 a.m. For more information on any of these events, call Gloria or Monti at Edgewater Woods, (765) 644-0903.
Hospital EMT class begins Aug. 26
Saint John’s next EMT Certification class will begin Aug. 26. The class will meet from 6 to 10 p.m., two nights a week, at the Saint John’s Education Center on the corner of 19th and Jackson streets in Anderson. For more information and an application, call Dana Scott, RN, at (765) 646-8529 or e-mail dlscott@sjhsnet.org Tuition includes CPR training, textbook and other class materials. Following successful completion of the course, program graduates are eligible for the State of Indiana Certification Examination and the National EMT Registry Examination. Application for the state certification is dependent upon passing this examination. This course is required to be a paramedic. To be considered for the program, applicants must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED. All students must read, write and speak the English language fluently. Class size is limited.
