FSSA to address applicant concerns
Representatives from the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration will be at Ivy Tech in Anderson, 104 W. 53rd St., Friday to answer questions and address concerns from clients or applicants, according to Lauren Auld, director of Media Relations at FSSA. Between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., people are encouraged to bring applications for benefits, copies of papers used for benefits and papers reflecting changes in the following areas: Cash Assistance (TANF), food stamps, Medicaid, Hoosier Healthwise and Healthy Indiana Plan. Use the west or east entrance to Ivy Tech.
Chicken & noodles dinner canceled
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 266 Ladies Auxiliary chicken and noodles dinner scheduled for Saturday has been canceled due to equipment failure in the kitchen.
Free PDA workshop at Verizon Wireless
Verizon Wireless is offering a free PDA and smartphone workshop at its Anderson store, located at 4718 S. Scatterfield Road, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Monday. The popular class, “20 Things Your PDA and Smartphone Can Do For You,” is geared to help wireless phone users get the most out of their PDAs and smartphones by learning about their functions and features. Some of the topics include text messaging, Internet browsing, using e-mail and the camera, changing ringtones, pairing Bluetooth devices and setting up the speed dial and address book synchronization functions.
The free, in-store class is open to Verizon Wireless customers and other PDA and smartphone users (all brands/models welcome). The event fills up quickly and seating is limited. Individuals who do not yet have a PDA or smartphone but would like to learn more about these integrated devices are welcome to attend the class.

Burning season ending Saturday
The spring burning season for residents of the City of Anderson will end at 6 p.m. Saturday. No burning will be allowed in Anderson after this date. Residents living outside the city of Anderson may continue to burn clean dry wood and leaves in a noncombustible container (such as a 55-gallon metal drum), according to state guidelines. If there are any questions regarding the open burning regulations, the Air Management Division may be contacted by phone at (765) 648-6158.
Literacy Center is on the move
The Literacy Center, office of The Madison County Literacy Coalition, has moved. The new downtown location is just three blocks east of the former location. The center will reopen on Monday in the Paradigm Place at 200 E. 11th St. Suite 102 is located inside the small door off the east parking lot. Regular office hours are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, or by appointment by calling (765) 641-0117. Individuals who struggle with reading are welcome. There is no cost for literacy services. Volunteers are needed to be trained as literacy tutors. Tutors are matched with a child or adult learner for weekly one-on-one sessions.
