Drive-in memories? Let us know

There were a lot of summer memories created at former movie drive-ins in the area and we’d like to hear them. Maybe the first date with your spouse was at a drive-in. Maybe you’re the one who accidentally started driving away with a speaker attached to your window. Also, we’d like to hear if you worked at a movie drive-in in the Madison County area or if you have any photos from drive-in movies. We plan to publish some of the stories in an upcoming issue of Madison magazine. The story should be about a movie drive-in experience in Madison County.

Floral arranging presentation set

The 2008 Garden Series program sponsored by the Madison County Master Gardener Association and Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service will have a presentation on floral arranging from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the library, third floor. Diana Etchison, florist at Ousley’s Harvest Gardens in Alexandria, will share tips on making professional looking floral arrangements that can be used at home. This event is open to the public with free admission. The Garden Series is held the third Saturday of each month through November. For more information, visit www.madisoncountymastergardener.org.

Prime Time Cafe hosts rummage sale

A rummage and bake sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Prime Time Cafe, 29th and Fairview streets in Anderson. The event is being sponsored by New Covenant Ministries Hospitality Committee. Grilled food will also be available. Spaghetti dinner fundraiser Friday

Anderson’s Extreme Home Makeover spaghetti dinner fundraiser for the Vannatta project will be at the Madison Park Church of God, 67th Street and Columbus Avenue, from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. Cost is $7 for spaghetti, garlic bread, salad, dessert and drink. Paige Richie will perform country and gospel music and an auction will be held at the end of the night. Indiana native plant sale set at Mounds

May is the perfect time to plant beautiful flowers that will attract butterflies and other wildlife. Join the Friends of Mounds State Park for their first fundraiser plant sale on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Visitor Center. These aren’t just any plants though. Most are Indiana native plants and wildflowers that were grown from seeds harvested from the butterfly garden at Mounds State Park. Native plants and wildflowers are hardy and can be planted in less than perfect soils, also requiring less water, according to the Friends’ press release. Plants range in price from $1 to $5, and there are at least 20 different plant species to choose from (while supplies last.)

Cornerstone hosts Spring Songfest

Cornerstone Ministries, 37th Street and Madison Avenue in Anderson, will host a Spring Songfest at 6:30 p.m. Friday. There will be a full evening of singing with special guest “The Singing Sheriff” John Gunter. The service will benefit the Community Justice Center.
