VFW hosts pork chop dinner
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 266, 3210 Columbus Ave., Anderson, will host a broasted pork chop dinner from 4:40 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Pork chops, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and salad will be served. Cost of the meal is $6.50.
Hamburger fry Friday at Parkview Church
There will be a hamburger fry at 6 p.m. Friday at Parkview Church of the Nazarene, 911 S. Rangeline Road, Anderson.
Hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos, popcorn and drinks will be served. Enjoy a softball game as you eat. This event is a fundraiser for a future Work and Witness mission trip.
Alex chamber hosts reception for Rubrechts
The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce will host an open house reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 116 W. Broadway, for Nancy and Bill Rubrecht, former owners of Broyles Furniture store.
The Rubrechts and the Broyles family were active in civic affairs of Alexandria while maintaining the furniture store for more than 100 years before closing in January 2007.
The reception is open to friends, family and the public.
Jackson speaker at bereavement ministry
Judy Jackson will be the speaker at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Bereavement Support Ministry that meets at Bethany Christian Church, 1920 N. Rangeline Road, Anderson.
Her topic will be “A Glimpse of Grief in an Everchanging World.” Jackson is nationally certified in the field of loss and grief recovery.
This session will take place in the Friendship Room of the church. Enter through the north door across from Highland High School.
All sessions are provided free of charge for anyone suffering the loss of a family member or friend due to death. Refreshments and fellowship conclude each meeting. For more information, call the church office at (765) 643-5713.
Summitville PTO hosts walk/run Saturday
The Summitville Elementary PTO will host a 5K walk/run beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday at the school. Health Fair booths will be on display from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The run will begin at 9:10 a.m. with the walk following at 9:30 a.m. At 10 a.m. the kids’ walkathon begins.
Other activities include a performance by the band Protest for Pluto, award ceremony at noon followed by the raffle and door prizes at 1 p.m. Health Fair booths will feature local hospitals, along with the Blood Bus and Poison Center. The Madison County Sheriff’s Department will be there and the Indiana National Guard will have a climbing wall. Other booths will include Mary Kay, Pampered Chef, Cub Scouts, local ball teams and other local vendors.
An obstacle course and large blowup slide will also be on site. Food will be served.

Scrapbook fellowship group to meet
The “Not Just Scrappin” May meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at Faith Church Assembly of God, directly across from Hoosier Park on 53rd Street.
The group of Christian women who love to scrapbook, stamp and fellowship meets monthly. Future dates include the Great American Cookout on June 14 and Salad & Sandwiches on July 12.
Cost is $5 and a menu item to share. Served this month will be hot dogs and Chanda’s homemade coney sauce. There will be a raffle as well as door prizes.

Liberty students to perform ‘Dreamcoat’
Liberty Fine Arts will present the musical production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Madison Park Church of God’s Scatterfield Road facility in Anderson.
Based on the Biblical story of Joseph and his coat of many colors, Joseph is the favorite son of Jacob, but his siblings resent the attention Jacob showers upon him. Joseph’s brothers sell him into slavery, and eventually the favored son finds himself in jail. However, his favorable interpretation of the dreams of the Pharaoh win him the admiration of the all-powerful leader, and soon Joseph is one of the most powerful men in Egypt.
The production is directed by Liberty’s Brian Long.
Tickets are available for purchase in advance through the main office of either the Elementary Campus located at 2025 Hillcrest Drive or the Secondary Campus at 2323 Columbus Ave. for $10.50/ adult and $8/student (18 and under with student/college ID). Tickets may be purchased at the door for an increased rate.

Motorcycle Club plans holiday weekend fundraiser
The Old School Riders Motorcycle Club will have a three-day Memorial Day weekend fundraiser for the group’s Christmas toy giveaway at Jackson Park, 22nd Street and Raible Avenue.
Events, including a 3-on-3 basketball tournament and an “Anderson Idol” talent show, are planned. Vendor booth space is still available for food, drinks, clothing, etc.

Relay for Life celebration through May 16
The Madison County Relay for Life will be painting the town purple through May 16. The goal of the Relay for Life Committee is to make a sweep of Anderson and Madison County in asking for donations, sponsorships and encouraging companies and groups to form teams to walk and raise money in the annual event. Display a purple ribbon or balloons in front of your business in support of Relay.
Wear purple on Friday, May 16, and join at the Town Center in Anderson at noon for a Relay For Life Rally. Mayor Kris Ockomon plans to do a proclamation and balloon release.
The actual event is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. June 13 and end at noon on June 14 at the Anderson High School track.
