Airport gets $62,510 grant
The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded Anderson Municipal Airport-Darlington Field with a $62,510 grant to aid in replacing a perimeter fence.
“I’m pleased that the FAA is helping to upgrade the fence at the Anderson airport,” said U.S. Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind. “A new fence will help make the airport safer for the community.”

Crews doing work along Indiana 13
Crews from E & B Paving are preparing driveway and mailbox approaches while adding stone to shoulders and placing pavement markings along Indiana 13 between Fortville and Interstate 69.
The work will continue throughout the week during daytime hours. Flaggers will direct single-lane traffic around worksites.
This week’s construction activities along Indiana 13 is in advance of milling and paving from the Hancock-Madison County line to Interstate 69. E & B Paving submitted the $424,343 low bid to the Indiana Department of Transportation last fall.
Liberty Christian School to exhibits quilts
On Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m., Liberty Christian School will have a quilt show with refreshments served to be held in the gym of the Hillcrest Campus located at 2025 Hillcrest Drive. Students of the Pins-n-Needles Club will have their quilts on display as well as some adult quilts for the public to enjoy.
There are 26 fifth- through seventh-grade students that participate in the quilting club. Prizes will be awarded with a sewing machine awarded to one of the students as the grand prize.
Socrates Cafe participants discuss issues
“Why do intelligent people come to different conclusions?” and “What are the important characteristics of a president?” are the types of questions participants have discussed in past meetings of Socrates Café.
Past attendees and new people are invited to the next Socrates Cafe, from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. Thursday at the Madison County History Center, 11 W. 11th St.

Master gardeners offer plants for sale
The Madison County Master Gardener Association will host its annual plant sale at the 4-H Building, Beulah Park, Indiana 9 in Alexandria from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
All proceeds support the MCMGA Scholarship Fund. This scholarship fund was started eight years ago in 2000, and has paid a total of $13,000 to Madison County students interested in furthering their education in horticulture.
In 2006, the Master Gardener Association gave three scholarships of $1,000 each to such students. The success of the plant sale determines the outcome of the scholarships. Available for purchase will be the finest of annuals, perennials, bulbs, houseplants, vegetables, trees/shrubs and other items related to gardening and at bargain prices, a representative said.
Geater Center to host fish fry
A fish fry will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Geater Community Center, 1611 Chase St., Anderson.
Cost for meals is $7 for adults and $5 for children.
Served will be whiting. Perch will be available by special order only.
Quilt show at New Life Wesleyan
The New Life Wesleyan Church, 5550 S. Indiana 67, Pendleton, will sponsor a quilt show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Quilters and friends of the church will share their quilts, featuring award-winning quilts from Eleanor Hickman and Judy Tescher.
Motorcycle Club plans holiday weekend fundraiser
The Old School Riders Motorcycle Club will have a three-day Memorial Day weekend fundraiser for the group’s Christmas toy giveaway at Jackson Park, 22nd Street and Raible Avenue.
Events, including a 3-on-3 basketball tournament and an Anderson Idols talent show, are planned. Vendor booth space is still available for food, drinks, clothing, etc.

Church plans 2-day Mother’s Day events
Glad Tidings Church will present a Mother’s Day celebration with the theme: “Growing in God’s Garden.” The church is located at 815 E. School St., Anderson.
This two-day celebration will begin Saturday with Lana’s Victorian Luncheon starting at 11:30 a.m. Beginning at 1 p.m., a style show has been planned. Guest speakers will be the mother/daughter team of Lana Moore and Brenda McIllwain.
Pastor Jamey Moore has outlined a special Mother’s Day service for all the ladies at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Speakers for the Sunday morning service will be Pat Landes, Amber Myes, Sheron Hamilton, Hope Jerrils, Julayne Myers, April Phillips and Vicki Beaty.
