Mother’s Day celebration Sunday
Madison Christian Church in Frankton will have a Mother’s Day celebration at 1 p.m. Sunday with tea party theme. The membership committee will host the luncheon and provide finger sandwiches. Attendees are asked to bring a salad or dessert.
Jana Antrim from Tea in the Country will give a short presentation on the history of tea, health, and tea etiquette. She will also provide two types of hot tea and one ice tea for sampling.
Fundraiser dinner on Sunday
A chicken noodles or dumplings fundraiser dinner will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. Sunday for Andrew Schwartz at Daybreak Community Church, 8284 W. 100N, Anderson.
Schwartz, a 20-month-old boy is receiving mesechymal stem cell transplant. He was born Aug. 2, 2006, and his medical problems began at his four-month check-up. After several months it was discovered that he suffered from a rare disorder called hypophosphatasia. People with this disorder are unable to get the calcium in the blood to mineralize in their bones. A freewill offering will be taken.

MLK scholarship awards luncheon Sunday
The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Commission will have its 19th-year scholarship awards luncheon at 11:30 a.m. today at the Days Inn, 5930 Scatterfield Road. In addition to presenting this year’s award recipients, the group will also recognize the top five African-American freshman, sophomore and junior students from each high school. Contributions may be made to the Martin Luther King Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 2197, Anderson, IN 46016.
Rail crossings to be closed
The railroad crossing at Tennessee Street in Daleville will be closed for repairs Monday through Friday. The crossing at Walnut Street will be closed May 19-23 according to Kay Gipson, clerk-treasurer for the town of Daleville. CSX Railroad will close the Marsh Road crossing in Yorktown from Monday to Friday for repairs, according to a press release from Joyce Becktell, Town of Yorktown. Please arrange alternate routes during this closure.
Movie drive-in memories? Let us know
There were a lot of summer memories created at former movie drive-ins in the area, and we’d like to hear them. Maybe the first date with your spouse was at a drive-in. Maybe you’re the one who accidentally started driving away with a speaker attached to your window. Also, we’d like to hear if you worked at a movie drive-in in the Madison County area or if you have any photos from drive-in movies. Please send your stories via e-mail to newsroom@heraldbulletin.com. We plan to publish some of the stories in an upcoming issue of Madison magazine. The story should be about a movie drive-in experience in Madison County.
MS help group set to meet Wednesday
The Muncie Area Multiple Sclerosis Self-help Group will meet Wednesday at 6 p.m., at Hazelwood Christian Church, 1400 W. University Ave., Muncie. The meeting will include a carry-in dinner. Fried chicken, coffee and cold drinks will be provided and attendees are requested to bring a covered dish, table service (plates, silverware, etc.) and a hearty appetite.
Community Auxiliary to hold flower sale
Community Hospital Anderson’s Auxiliary will host a hanging basket flower sale on Thursday starting at 7 a.m. in the Outpatient lobby of the hospital. The sale is open to the public and benefits the many charitable sponsorships of the Auxiliary. For more information, call (765) 298-5100.
Craig to sign new book Sunday
Local author Bill Craig will be at Waldenbooks at Mounds Mall Sunday to promote the release of his new novel. Craig, who grew up in New Castle and worked at Mastercuts in the mall for several years, is back to promote “Emerald Death,” the first book in a new series about an Indiana Jones style “pulp-hero.” This is Craig’s second series, the first being a contemporary action/adventure series following Chicago Cop Jack Riley. The signing will take place from noon to 2 p.m.
Election Day locations noted
On Tuesday, Election day, Daleville residents Precinct 94 will vote at the Town Hall, Salem Township residents Precinct 51 will vote at Trinity Church on Main Street and Precinct 52 will vote at Daleville High School, according to a press release from Kay Gipson, clerk-treasurer, Daleville.
The following Yorktown Town Hall offices will be closed during/after noon on Tuesday, according to a press release by Joyce Becktell, Town of Yorktown: Utility Office; Town Court (no court session); Clerk Treasurer’s Office (closed all day); Town Manger’s Office (closed all day).
Grandparents’ Day at Liberty Christian
Liberty Christian School will have Grandparents Day on Friday at the Hillcrest campus, 2025 Hillcrest Drive. This day has become one of the highlights of the year for the students and the grandparents.
Every child pre-K through sixth grade will have an opportunity to invite grandparents or adopted grandparents to this special half day of school.
8:30 to 9 a.m.: Grandparents will be treated to a continental breakfast.
9 to 10 a.m.: Entire elementary will join the grandparents for a special program.
10:30 to 11:30 a.m.: Grandparents may visit the classrooms of their grandchildren.
11:30 a.m.: Students will be dismissed to leave with their grandparents.
APL book sale set for this weekend
The Anderson Public Library’s “Friends of the Library” will host its three-day book sale from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday on the third floor of the library. The sale will include materials such as audio books, VHS tapes, DVDs, and a large assortment of biographies, fiction and nonfiction books. For more information, call (765) 641-2451.
Mother’s Day banquet at Elks
The public is welcome to a Mother’s Day buffet on Sunday, May 11, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Elks Lodge 209, 1803 Broadway. The menu includes chicken or ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad, coffee or tea, and dessert. Cost is $12.95 per person. Children 12 and under eat for half price. Reservations are required, call the lodge at (765) 643-5351.
