Wilson participates in conference
Gunner C. Wilson, a sixth-grader at Lapel Elementary School, participated in the Junior National Young Leaders Conference leadership conference April 19-24 in Washington, D.C. He was one of over 250 students from across the U.S. who took part in “Voices of Leadership: Reflecting on the Past to Create the Future.”
During the six-day program, students took part in educational activities and presentations: as well they met with elected officials and key Congressional staff members on Capitol Hill. They also visited relevent sites, such as the historic districe of Philadelphia, Harpers Ferry, W. Va., and Washington’s monuments and memorials.
Wilson is the son of John and Tina Wilson of Anderson.
Prichett, Scott chosen for Boys State
Lapel High School juniors, Michael Pritchett and Ryan Scott has been selected as this year’s representative at Hoosier Boys State, which is held on the campus of Indiana State University in Terre Haute. Under the guidance of Boys State staff members, the delegates operate the executive, judicial and legislative branches of a state government.
The Lapel American Legion Post 212 sponsors two boys each year to attend the one-week program. The students are chosen by their school administrators and staff based on scholarship, leadership and citizenship.
Area seniors honored
INDIANAPOLIS — Forty high school seniors from throughout Indiana have been named 2008 Indianapolis Star Academic All-Stars and were honored April 9 at a luncheon. In addition, 44 other seniors were recognized as Regional winners at the luncheon.
Local honorees include:
Region B - Regional winner: Logan Metzger, Lapel Jr./Sr. High School, William Morton, principal
Region C - Regional winner: Lindsey Rice, Shenandoah, Todd Salkoski, Administrative Assistant and Basketball Coach
Derrick Wu, Yorktown, Mike Wilhelm, AP Biology Teacher
Crandall inducted into honor society
HUNTINGTON — On April 6, 13 Huntington University student-athletes were inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the national honor society that gives recognition to college students who excel in both academics and athletics.
Chi Alpha Sigma is a nonprofit organization established to recognize college student athletes who earn a varsity letter in at least one sport while maintaining a 3.5 or higher cumulative grade point average throughout their junior and senior years.
The following Huntington University student-athlete was inducted: Kathryn M. Crandall, a junior exercise science major and basketball team member from Anderson. (Lapel High School).
