Author Carie set to visit book group
Indiana author Jamie Carie will visit the Christian book group at the Alexandria-Monroe Public Library from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday. She will discuss her book “Snow Angel,” a USA News book award winner. Her second novel, “The Duchess and The Dragon” (due out this month), is a passionate tale of love between a reckless duke and a serene Quaker woman. There will also be a book signing.
The discussion is open to the public.
Lanane, Reske at library Thursday
Madison County Triad will hear from state Sen. Tim Lanane and state Rep. Scott Reske at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Anderson Public Library.
The Triad meetings are open to the public and free of charge. The legislators will be reviewing this year’s General Assembly and what bills were passed.
Pentecostals finish new building
The Pentecostals of Anderson have completed their building project. There will be a dedication service at 7:30 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. David King of Defuniak Springs, Fla., speaking. Special singing will be by The Pentecostal’s Sanctuary choir directed by TJ St. Clair. Dan Mundy will lead the worship.
On Saturday, the doors will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. for a Community Day. Refreshments will be available throughout the day. 
This is an opportunity for anyone in the community to walk through the new facilities.
Speakers for Sunday services include the Rev. Jeff Brantley of Raleigh, N.C., at 10 a.m. and the Rev. David King at 6 p.m.

School holding Fine Arts Night
East Elementary (Pendleton) Faculty and Parents’ Club will hold Fine Arts Night from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
The evening will feature the artistic, graphic and musical talents of East Elementary students. The fifth- and sixth-grade choir and the drama club will share songs from “High School Musical.” Some of the staff will sing a medley of songs from the ’50s. The evening will wrap up with East’s very own version of “American Idol,” with “Arabian Idol,” in which 15 student acts will entertain the audience with instrumental, singing and/or dancing talents.
Many forms of student artwork, including computerized graphics, will be on display for parents, family members and friends to view during the open-house type forum.
Lions Club to host breakfast Saturday
The Middletown Lions Club will host an all-you-can-eat breakfast from 6 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Middletown Community Building.
Cost for the meal is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.
Proceeds will go toward a new roof for Middletown Boy Scout Troop 279 building.
Praisefest to be held Saturday
On Saturday, Praisefest, a free festival for kids will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Courtyard at Anderson University. There will be plenty of fun, games, and crafts for the kids to participate in, organizers said. The first 50 kids will receive a free T-shirt. This event is sponsored by Camarada Social Club. 
Rummage sale Friday, Saturday
The Frankton First United Methodist Church, Eighth and Sigler streets, will host a church rummage and bake sale on Friday and Saturday.
Friday hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday’s are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This is a spring fundraiser for missions.
Food to be given out at Friday tailgate
People in need of assistance may obtain free food distributed from the tailgate of the Second Harvest Food Bank truck from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at Athletic Park, corner of Eighth and Wilcon streets, Anderson.
This event is sponsored by a $200 grant received from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs and by friends of Second Harvest.

Market to host plant sale
The Markleville Farmers Market Plant Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Markleville Town Park, Indiana 38 on the west edge of town.
Available for purchase will be hand-nurtured vegetable, herb and flowers plants from local gardeners.
Lodge to serve breakfast Saturday
A community breakfast will be held from 6 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Mechanicsburg Lodge F&AM 392.
The menu will include bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, eggs, doughnuts and other sweets, coffee, juice and milk.
Tickets are $6 in advance and at the door. Children under 7 can eat free.
The lodge is located just north of U.S. 36 on Mechanicsburg Road.
Author to sign book Saturday
Local author Jay Prewitt will be holding a book signing at Waldenbooks in Mounds Mall on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.
Prewitt is the author of a book titled “Have You Received Since You Believed.” It is a spiritually inspirational book that takes a look at the teachings of Jesus Christ and his Apostles as they relate to salvation.
He currently resides in Muncie and is a funeral director. He is currently working on his second book, which relates his experiences in the funeral service industry.
In addition to his books, Prewitt is also a singer/songwriter with more than 30 songs and a self-titled CD to his credit.
Lodge offering Ind. 38 Sale booth space
The Pendleton Masonic Lodge, Indiana 38, has booth space available for the State Road 38 Rummage to be held Friday and Saturday, May 2-3. Cost is $25.

Church to hold blood drive
Bethel United Methodist Church, 4011 W. 200S, Anderson, will be sponsoring a blood drive called “Make It Personal” from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Center to host square dance
Dancers are invited to a square dance on Sunday at the Rangeline Community Center, 1405 N. Rangeline Road, Anderson. Square dancing at the basic and mainstream level will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. This is a free dance.
Bring a covered dish to share. Meat, coffee, tea, plates and table service will be provided. The caller is Darrin Henry.
