Housing Coalition meeting to be held
Anderson Fair Housing Coalition will have a meeting on housing issues with Merilyn Brown, a representative from the federal Housing and Urban Development, on Friday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Wilson Boys & Girls Club, 2200 W. 22nd St.

Better Breathers group to meet
The Better Breathers Club is a support group for adults suffering from chronic lung disease, organized through the American Lung Association of Indiana. Meetings include expert speakers, video presentations and roundtable discussions.
The group’s next meeting will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Community Hospital Anderson’s Education Center, 1923 N. Madison Ave. Speaker Richard Rose will discuss how the heart and lungs work together.

‘Celebrity’ servers to aid Alternatives
Alternatives Inc. and Wings Etc. will host a Community TIPS Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday. Local “celebrity servers, hostesses and volunteers” will serve lunch to raise funds for Alternatives’ shelter. 
All tips will be donated to the agency. Among the celebrity servers are Deanna Edwards, Anderson University; Greg Graham, Anderson Board of Works; Niki Hollingsworth, The Salon Professional Academy; Amber Lewis, city of Anderson; Ludy Watkins, Madison County clerk; and Georgeann Whitworth, National City.

Spring fling, hog roast set at Frankton
Frankton Heritage Days Ninth Annual Spring Fling & Hog Roast will be held on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Heritage House, corner of Church and Walnut streets.
Table and chairs are available for rent for $10. Individuals can sell rummage, jewelry, crafts, school projects and more. Call Esther Burger at (765) 754-7469 for reservations.
A silent auction will be held with items needing to be picked up by 7 p.m.
Entertainment will be provided by Allan Rhodes, acoustical rock, Bethany and Chris Baker, and Shane Linville.
Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with hot dogs, nachos and a drink for $3. The hog roast includes pork, potato salad, green beans, roll, drink and dessert will be available for $7.50 for dinner served from 4 to 7 p.m.

Lapel church to serve spaghetti
Grandma’s homemade spaghetti and meatball dinner will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Ford Street Church, 925 Ford St., Lapel. An auction will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society
Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children. Children under three, eat free.
The event is being sponsored by Family Matters Relay for Life team.

Bids for Kids TV auction this weekend
The Bids for Kids TV Auction, now in its 20th televised year, will be broadcast from Reardon Auditorium on the Anderson University campus on Friday from 6 p.m. to midnight and Saturday from 10 a.m. to midnight.
Celebrity hosts from the community will offer more than 1,400 items for auction during the two-day event. Bidders may watch on cable Channel 3 and call in their bids or watch and bid in person from the audience. Admission is free. All proceeds benefits Bids for Kids and child abuse prevention programs in Madison County. For additional information, visit the Web site of www.bidsforkids.tv.

Bath and beauty sale at Community Hospital
Community Hospital Anderson’s Auxiliary will sell bath and beauty products from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday in the hospital’s Outpatient Lobby.
The bath and beauty sale is open to the public and benefits the many charitable sponsorships of the Auxiliary. For more information, call (765) 298-5100.

Speaking English meetings at library
Those who are new to the U.S. or learning to speak the language are invited to join the Conversational English Group at Anderson Public Library.
There are two times to choose from. One group meets from 7 to 8:45 p.m. Wednesdays, and the other group meets from 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursdays. Classes meet in the Redbud Room on the third floor.
Those who are new to English can broaden their knowledge and comfort in speaking to others by using music and games, as well as household, school or business items to learn the new language — by listening, by doing and by repeating what you hear.

Entries due to Fort Wayne quilt show
Appleseed Quilt Guild will hold its 14th biannual show June 26, 27 and 28 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, 4000 Parnell Ave., Fort Wayne.
Kim Diehl, nationally recognized teacher, author and quilter, will offer various workshops. Nine other regional teachers will offer a variety of classes.
Best of show winners will receive sewing machines. Entry forms must be postmarked by April 24 for quilts to be judged or displayed only.
