Health Center addresses Healthy Indiana Plan

Providing quality accessible health care to the community will be the focus of the Healthy Indiana Plan Enrollment Site from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the Madison County Community Health Center, 1547 Ohio Ave., Anderson.

The focus of this event will be to enroll the eligible uninsured Hoosiers into the NEW Healthy Indiana Plan. The eligible individuals are those adult Hoosiers between the ages of 18-64 whose household income is between 22-200 percent of the federal poverty level (FPL), who are not eligible for Medicaid. Eligible participants must be uninsured for at least six months and cannot be eligible for employer-sponsored health insurance.

How this plan is different from a traditional entitlement program is: the number of people who can enroll in the Healthy Indiana Plan is entirely dependent upon available funding. Eligibility will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

HIP requires each participant to make a modest financial contribution, and it provides incentives for participants to stay healthy, be value and cost-conscious, and to utilize services in a cost-efficient manner. This plan covers essential health services and is similar to commercial plans. In contrast, Medicaid has unlimited benefits and services, and recipients have no incentive to be responsible for their health status, to be mindful of costs, or to utilize health care services efficiently.

The services that are covered include: physician services, prescriptions, diagnostic exams, home health services, outpatient hospital, inpatient hospital, hospice, preventive services, family planning, and case and disease management.
