ANDERSON — A Muncie man remained hospitalized Thursday after being injured in a two-vehicle crash that injured his son and killed another man.

Marty Reese, 48, was in stable condition at Community Hospital late Thursday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

His son Daniel Reese, 23, Muncie, was released after being examined at Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis, a Wishard spokeswoman said Thursday.

Both men suffered undetermined injuries when the car they were riding in flipped into a field in northeast Madison County around 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The vehicle’s driver, 54-year-old Ronald Hendrickson, died from blunt force trauma to his head and neck after he was ejected from his car.

Hendrickson, a rural Delaware County resident, and the Reeses were riding on County Road 500 in a Chevrolet Nova equipped with racing tires and a roll cage when another car, driven by Matthew Hanna, approached them from the rear, according to Madison County Sheriff Ron Richardson.

Hendrickson pulled to the side of the road and waved Hanna past. Then as Hanna passed the Nova, Hendrickson apparently rammed into the rear of Hanna’s car, Richardson said.

The Nova flipped into a field and ejected Hendrickson and Daniel Reese. Marty Reese was found inside the car.

Hanna was uninjured.

Hendrickson was in full cardiac arrest at scene and was later pronounced dead at Community Hospital, Richland Township Fire Chief Brian Frank said.
