ANDERSON — Madison County has received its first report of a death caused by the H1N1 virus, commonly referred to as swine flu.

State health officials on Thursday night were informed by state epidemiologists that a death from H1N1 had been confirmed in the county in the week that ended last Saturday.

Statewide, six Hoosiers died from the virus in the most recently reported week, bring the total statewide to 28 since June 1.

Madison County Health Department director Kellie J. Kelly said due to privacy considerations, officials do not identify the person who died or disclose where in the county the death happened.

Meanwhile, the county has distributed about 7,300 doses of vaccine and covered most of the health care providers and emergency workers.

Also this week, more public vaccination clinics were announced and will take place next month. They are:

* Pendleton: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at Pendleton Heights High School.

* Anderson: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at Mounds Mall.
