Larry E. Gamble



Oct. 7, 1941 - Nov. 16, 2008



ALEXANDRIA — Larry E. Gamble, 67, died Nov. 16, 2008, at Alexandria Care Center in Alexandria, following an extended illness.



He was born Oct. 7, 1941, in Springfield, Tenn., the son of Jasper and Margaret (Fulton) Gamble Maxwell, and had resided in Alexandria since 2002.



He had owned and operated Gamble Trucking Company of Clarksville, Tenn., retiring in 1990 after 18 years. He did upholstery work and was a master auto and truck mechanic.



He was a member of Calvary Baptist Chapel of Alexandria. He enjoyed fishing and was a NASCAR fan.



Survivors include three sons, Larry (Selena) Gamble II and Jeff Gamble, all of Alexandria, and David (Tassie) Gamble of Kaufman, Texas; daughter, Melinda (Johnny) Pitts of Anderson; his former wife, Sharon Gamble Ward of Alexandria; sister, Nina (Danny) Duncan of Nashville, Tenn.; brother, Bobby (Terry) Gamble of Nashville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.



The family would like to extend thanks and appreciation to the staff at Alexandria Care Center, Southern Care Hospice and Community Home Health Services.



He was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper and Margaret (Fulton) Gamble Maxwell; a brother, Donald Gamble; step-father, John Montgomery; granddaughter, Allison Gamble; and step-mother, Martha Gamble.



Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Chapel, 202 W. Tyler St., Alexandria, and officiated by Pastor Harrison Williams.



Graveside service and burial will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Spring Hill Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Road, Nashville, Tenn.



Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Chapel in Alexandria.



Memorial contributions may be made, through the funeral home, to Calvary Baptist Chapel.



Arrangements have been entrusted to Owens Funeral Home, Alexandria.
