Sports complex on hold
No proposals submitted for southside project

ANDERSON, Ind. — An expected sports complex project near Exit 22 is on hold indefinitely as soil and drainage issues on the property might have caused concern for bidders.

Anderson Redevelopment Commission attorney Charles Braddock said he didn’t know if the property issues were what stopped any bidders from responding to a request for proposal for the project that would have been located behind the Central Indiana Orthopedics building on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

“I have a feeling that probably caused concern for any bidders,” Braddock said.

Braddock said the complex was a project involving one particular group that wanted to locate in Anderson, but he would not release details of the group or project. He confirmed that part of the project could involve a baseball facility in which some city officials, including City Council members, have expressed interest.

“It’s an issue of a new business coming to town, and location is an issue,” he said.

Since no bidders responded to the RFP, the city’s economic development staff and the Anderson Redevelopment Commission are free to negotiate the project with any party that might come forward expressing interest in creating a sports complex at that location, Braddock said.
