The Ball State University football team’s 6-0 start has earned some national respect.

On Sunday, Ball State moved into the No. 25 spot on the Associated Press top-25 rankings. It marks the first time Ball State has entered college football’s elite poll.

The Fighting Cardinals earned 97 points to slide into the final slot behind Pittsburgh. Oklahoma remained No. 1 with 51 first-place votes and 1,608 points.

Ball State is off to its best start since going 9-0 to open the 1965 season. Saturday’s 31-0 win over Toledo was Ball State’s sixth in a row.

On Sept. 20, receiver dante Love suffered a spinal injury in Ball State’s 42-20 win over Indiana, the school’s first win against a BCS-conference school. Love has undergone surgery, but his football career is over.

North Carolina and Michigan State also made their first appearances in the top 25 this week at Nos. 22 and 23.
