Inspiration banquet at Countryside Manor
Countryside Manor Health & Living Community, 205 Marine Drive, Anderson, invites the community to a banquet encouraging chaplains, pastors and volunteers in the community at 7 p.m. Monday.
Dr. Stephen Swihart, founder of Master Plan Ministry and a graduate of Ashland Theological Seminary, will be the guest speaker.

Special County Council meeting Tuesday
A special meeting of the Madison County Council will be held at the Madison County Government Center at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Council Chambers.
The council will consider an ordinance to repeal and rescind the county economic development income tax (CEDIT), impose an additional county option income tax (COIT) to provide additional property tax relief by way of an increased homestead credit and impose an additional COIT for public safety.

NRA official to be at Fall Creek Valley
Sandra Froman, the immediate past president of the National Rifle Association, plans to be at Fall Creek Valley Conservation Club between 9:15 and 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Local Friends of NRA members invite the public to come meet Froman. Her Madison County visit was originally scheduled for Tuesday.
Her visit is to discuss gun issues in the upcoming election and to highlight the governor’s support of the Second Amendment.

Library to host government contracting seminar
The Anderson Public Library is offering a free seminar on federal government contracting, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Presenter Ronda Crouch of the Small Business Administration will cover where to find contracting opportunities; how to register your business to sell to the government; how to market your products and services; why you may need to obtain a surety bond and how to do so. Back-to-school party planned Friday
A Back to School Neighborhood Party will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Gospel Light Church, 219 Gilmore Road, Anderson.
There will be music, games, prizes and free food including hot dogs with coney sauce, cookies and lemonade. Cans of pop will be sold for 50 cents with proceeds going to the missions, organizers said in a press release.

All-you-can-eat breakfast Saturday
The Christian Men’s Fellowship East Christian Church, 124 E. Main St., Markleville, will have its monthly all-you-can-eat breakfast on Saturday from 8 to 10 a.m. in the church basement.
The menu includes pancakes, sausage patties, scrambled eggs, juice and coffee, with a freewill offering taken.
The public is invited and the church is handicap accessible.

Historical program set at Pendleton
The Rev. Father Hardin will present his play “An Anti-Slavery Meeting in Pendleton, Indiana” at 10 a.m. Saturday in Falls Park. The play re-enacts a historic incident that took place in Pendleton almost 165 years ago on Sept. 15, 1843.
As part of the Pendleton Community Public Library’s historical program offerings, the event will be re-enacted by Hardin who bears a genuine physical likeness to Douglass. Hardin is the founder and president emeritus of Martin University in Indianapolis. The library, Madison County Historical Society, Pendleton, Fall Creek Settlement Inc. and the Pendleton Historical Museum are privileged to offer an opportunity to witness this historic re-enactment at Falls Park in Pendleton.

Craftsmen cookout Saturday at Mechanicsburg
The fifth annual Craftsmen Cookout will be held at the Mechanicsburg Lodge F&AM 392 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
Featured will be bluegrass music from The Cousin Brothers.
There will be fresh smoked pork and barbecue with all the fixings and homemade pies. Tickets are $7 and available in advance or at the door. Children under 8, eat free.
The lodge is located just north of U.S. 36 on Mechanicsburg Road.

NAACP branch sets election dates
The following general membership meetings of the NAACP Madison County Branch have been set for the purpose of election of officers and at-large member of the executive committee. The office is located at 2008 W. 15th St., Anderson.
At 3 p.m. Sept. 28, there will be an election of the Nominating Committee. All members whose memberships are current as of 30 days prior to the meeting date may be elected to the Nominating Committee.
At 3 p.m. Oct. 26, there will be a report of the Nominating Committee, receipt of nominations by petition and election of the Election Supervisory Committee. All members whose memberships are current as of April 1, 2008, may be nominated for office or as an at-large-member of the Executive Committee. In order to sign a nominating petition, or be elected to the Election Supervisory Committee, a member must be current as of 30 days prior to the October meeting.
On Nov. 23, the election of officers and at-large-members of the Executive Committee. Polls will be open from 3 to 5 p.m. In order to vote in a branch election, one must be member in good standing of the branch 30 days prior to the election. A form of identification is required.

Tri Kappa annual nut sale through Oct. 9.
Pecans, walnuts, cashews and a variety of other nut and candy products are available to order through Oct. 9.

Profits from the sale will support local charities and provide funding for scholarships which are awarded yearly to local high school students.
