ALEXANDRIA — An Indianapolis man was seriously injured Wednesday after losing control of his motorcycle along Indiana 28.

Madison County Sheriff Ron Richardson said Robert L. Sosbe, 36, was westbound along Ind. 28 shortly before 6 p.m. when he lost control of his motorcycle near 450 West, causing the motorcycle to skid along the pavement.

Alexandria first responders took Sosbe to Community Hospital in Anderson, and he was then immediately taken by helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Richardson said. It wasn’t immediately known if Sosbe was wearing a helmet, but the sheriff said he suffered injuries to the front and back of his head. Sosbe was conscious at the scene and able to speak with investigators, the sheriff said.

Sosbe’s speed at the time of the crash also wasn’t immediately known, but his 2002 Harley-Davidson traveled about 75 feet from the point when he began skidding.

Richardson said Sosbe had earlier passed several vehicles and appeared to be accelerating when the crash happened. However, he wasn’t actively passing anyone when he lost control.

Emergency management officials closed Ind. 28, between 450 West and 500 West, for about 90 minutes as sheriff’s officials investigated the crash. Elwood EMS and Pipe Creek first responders also assisted at the scene.

It’s the second motorcycle crash in Madison County since Monday.

Dewayne A. Hamilton, 32, was driving a 1998 Suzuki southbound on Indiana 67 when he collided with a pickup at the intersection with Market Street shortly before 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Hamilton was also taken by helicopter to Methodist. Hospital officials said he was undergoing surgery late Tuesday and his condition wasn’t available. A hospital spokesperson did not return messages seeking Hamilton’s condition Wednesday.
