ANDERSON — A man who authorities said tried to run over an Edgewood police officer near the end of a high-speed chase in May was in the Madison County Jail on Friday.

Antonio R. Dabney, 26, Indianapolis, was arrested without incident by U.S. marshals at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Pendleton Police Chief Mark Farrer said marshals had tracked Dabney to a residence in Ingalls, and a Pendleton officer transported Dabney to jail.

Dabney is charged with attempted murder, attempted voluntary manslaughter, attempted battery with a deadly weapon, resisting law enforcement and criminal recklessness. He was held on $70,000 bond.

The arrest stems from a chase that began with Fortville police pursuing Dabney north on Indiana 67. The chase with speeds of up to 110 mph continued through Pendleton.

As Dabney approached on 25th Street, Edgewood officer Joe Humphries had placed stop sticks near the intersection of Raible Avenue in an attempt to end the chase.

The Dodge Charger that Dabney was driving stopped and avoided puncturing its tires. Humphries was outside and behind his patrol car with his gun drawn when the Charger then drove at him. He didn’t fire because of homes in the vicinity and possible danger to other officers at the scene.

Farrer said videotape from Humphries’ car and from the car of Pendleton Sgt. Shane Isaacs document the event and show the car Dabney was driving approached Humphries in a threatening way. Isaacs used his car to ram the Charger, disabling both vehicles.

“I’m glad the prosecutor felt it was appropriate to file charges,” Farrer said. “The subject did put the officer in harm’s way.”

At the end of the chase in May, Dabney was arrested and charged with criminal recklessness and transferred to Hancock County. The additional charges were filed later, and marshals acted on warrants for Dabney’s arrest.
