12:51 p.m.: Rensel placed on unpaid leave

Darryl Rensel, assistant street commissioner for the city of Anderson, has been placed on unpaid administrative leave amid controversy revolving around sidewalks being redone in front of his property on Fletcher Street.

At the end of July, employees of the street department repaired the sidewalk in front of Rensel’s property at 1421 Fletcher Street, but no where else on the street.

Neighbors on the street complained to the city about the work and asked why more wasn’t being repaired.

Greg Graham, chairman of the Board of Works, said he met with Steve Priser, personnel director, and Todd Leever, street commissioner, as well as Rensel to discuss the issue.

“We determined he’d be placed on unpaid administrative leave," Graham said.
