ANDERSON — An Anderson business was reportedly robbed of about $1,500 Thursday evening by a man claiming to have a gun.

Police were called to National Auto Insurance, 1800 E. 19th St., at about 5 p.m., shortly before closing time, said Sgt. William Casey, department spokesman.

Casey said a male white wearing mirrored sunglasses, a black leather jacket and khaki shorts walked into the business nonchalantly, but a short time later he yelled it was a robbery. He ordered two female employees to the ground, but no weapon was shown.

He then walked to a desk or file cabinet and got an undisclosed amount of money. A person claiming to be an employee of the business called The Herald Bulletin and put the amount at $1,500.

Casey said no one was injured during the robbery, and the two employees were the only people inside the business. The man left the area on foot. Police set up a perimeter in an area around the business, but no suspects were taken into custody.

The man is described as being 5-feet-5 to 5-feet-7 with a slender build and sandy hair. He was also wearing gloves and a tan “toboggan-style” cap.

Anyone with information should contact Anderson police at (765) 648-6730.
