The Youth Department of Sherman Street Church of God will sponsor a weekend-long youth conference titled “Project Hope: Engaging a Generation” which will take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

According to a press release, the objective of “Project Hope” is to establish a frank and open dialogue with the youth of Anderson in order to provide a spiritual perspective on the issues and challenges they face in today’s world. All youth, sixth grade and up, are invited to attend.

Activities begin at 6 p.m. Friday at South Meridian Church of God, 2402 Meridian St., Anderson, where participants are invited to attend “The Zone,” a youth outreach ministry which will feature entertainment, food and games such as a dunk tank and a rock-climbing wall. The activities will take place outdoors, weather permitting.

Saturday at 1 p.m. the conference will take place at New Hope Family Life Center, 812 W. 13th St., and will feature guest presenters Youth Pastor Michael Thigpen of Columbia, Md. (formerly of Anderson) and motivational speaker Amaro Keith of Cincinnati, Ohio. During the course of the Saturday conference, a talent show will feature local young people from area churches. The Saturday conference will conclude with the participants being treated to bowling and pizza at Cooper’s Sports Bowl.

The conference concludes Sunday at Sherman Street Church of God, 1925 Sherman St., with a special Youth Sunday worship service at 10 a.m. featuring guest speakers Thigpen and Keith. For additional information, call Sherman Street Church of God at (765) 649-2548.
